Default Damaged door!

Was walking out a friend's house after dinner last night and his next door neighbor comes to say sorry after having accidently backed into me. Brought it to my local dealer and they are estimating $4k+ replace the door and repaint the whole driver's side. Driver said it was getting dark and the car was so slow, he did not see it. He was in a BMW X3.

Ouch!

That looks painful ...... At least the guy came to apologize. Hopefully you have a good body and paint guy. Everything should be on his dime.

Cheers, hope it comes out good.

OMG! That's horrible. Make sure you get compensated foe diminished value. I guess I don't feel so bad about the wheel rash suprise at the shop last week now. I really hope the repair goes smooth for you.

That should buff right out!

(I would guess that the black color made it hard for im to see your car).

Yikes! Sorry to hear that.

Good thing is that a good body shop will fix it perfectly.

Regards,

i agree-that just needs a new door-to be honest, that should hardly decrease the car's value. as it is such a localized repair and the way that it happened means that nothing except door is bent.

Ouch!

But notice the lineup of each side of the door....from the pictures it looks damn good. Should be a releative straightforward fix and repaint. I would not sweat that one. No frame issues, no body panel fitment issues most likely too.

Good luck.

From a logical perspective, what you say is true, but Dealers will look for any kind of pretense to pay you less on a trade-in.

Kudos to the neighbor who admitted doing the damage. Hell, I usually have problems getting others to admit fault even when there are witnesses. And then there are the Insurance companies. I hope you guys never have to deal with Progressive.

I suspect the anguish is most likely a lot more significant than the damage. Door-to-panel seams look good so I suspect a good (Porsche) body shop can replace & fit a new door properly. Then it's simply a matter of painting. Since it's black it should blend as new.

Publish the after pics when it's all done.

Good Luck!

There's no reason to paint the whole driver's side. A good body shop will be able to match the paint. Especially on black. Be sure to insist they don't paint anything but the new door.

New door and repaint. I would NOT paint anything other than the door.

I would even look for a salvage door in the correct color.
