I was recently in a showroom with both a PDE1 (which has an alcantara covered sport wheel supposedly like the GT, although without the yellow "where am I" indicator stripe) and a targa that had the "thicker leather sport steering wheel", and to the hand the alcantara felt thinner, like the stock wheel. All this really means is that it's possible that, like the "turbo wheels" that aren't as wide as a 997 turbo's wheels, the PDE1's GT sport alcantara wheel may not be as thick as the actual GT wheel.

That is what I thought. Thanks for saving me the trouble of finding one of each to measure.

I drove the car to work today and really enjoyed the XPA upgrade. It has a higher grade leather with very nice stitching and a nice feel after a touch of conditioning with Sonus. (would have loved to do red deviated BUT was afraid to ask). IMHO, it should be std equipment on the Carrera S.
Not sure if the XPA is thicker than the GT3 alcantra or the leather causes it to feel feels thicker than the alcantra based on the different covering materials.
All told--I could not be more pleased (unless it was 1/3 of the cost).
Anybody need a perfect sport sterring wheel--make me an offer. Requires round hub air bag. I have a full set of the connector cables.
I watched the guy install it. Very easy for anyone who is reasonably handy with cars. Just be sure to disconnect the battery and reset the windows when you are done. Also, double check the wheel is straight before buttoning things up. There is a nice write on caymanclub.net with pics.
