Buying Experience / Delivery
After the crap I went through regarding Cobalt Blue availability and then the changing of the completion date 4 times. My car was completed on 4/9. I have repeatedly asked my sales person for the date my car was shipped, the date for eta in Baltimore, and the name of the ship, so I can be a geek and track it online. I finally get a message that its on a boat and should be here in another week and a half. No dates supplied and no ship name. bumperplugs.com shipping schedule doesnt show any Baltimore arrivals to match the ships Marty was kind enought to provide me with. Currently a little pissed off at the lack of information flow from the color to the delivery. WTF! I was originally told the end of april the car would be here! Maybe I shoulda bought the car in Ohio afterall. Do you think this is a dealership thing or a Porsche thing?
They may be parked next to each other! Apparently you don't track by VIN#...I got mine right after it was made...Every time I ask the dealer about status and tracking etc I get the look of "It'll get here when it gets here!" It's just the excitement of finally knowing it's coming that I'd like to see where it is!!! Hopefully no issues like the ship carrying a load of new M3's and 335's that "tipped" in New Jersey...it was ugly!
pred8or - you might try calling the Porsche vehicle processing provider in Baltimore. I've provided the info below. The provider in Brunswick, GA was able to tell me if my car was on the most recent vessel in port by the VIN. They also gave me a Porsche contact responsible for shipping, and after my dealer confirmed with her that I was an actual customer, she was very helpful and she said she was going to send me a hat - still waiting. Her name was Cindy, but I doubt she works Baltimore. Also, your dealer should have no trouble telling what vessel your car is on - the least they can do is get the info for you. Be persistent.

It's your dealer. I made no mistake with my salesman that I wanted to know all that stuff, and they were very good about providing it. I consider it a mere service. Some places provide better service than others.
Unfortunately, Porsche has yet to make available their production information online (like BMW does). You are then highly reliant upon the dealer. I was so **** (Who? Me?) that as it sat down in San Diego awaiting processing and sending up to Santa Barbara I called the stevedores directly (RARELY done by a customer) and quickly ascertained the status of the car. "It's the blue one, right. Yea,--we got it and it's just fine..."

The Baltimore boat sunk in the North Sea. Really sad. Very sorry to hear.

Marty thanks for all the info. But Dan hit the nail on the head its mere service that should be provided free of charge for every specially made to order 100K car! The Cobalt Blue was rumored to be discontinued for 2008 which turned out to be false but I couldnt get a straight answer for about a month. All I asked for was the date it was done, the date it was shipped, the date for arrival in port, and if possible the name of the ship. I am sure at some point I am gonna get to fill out a questionaire and I cant wait!
Call 1800-Porsche. They really do seem to care and make every effort to have a satisfied customer. Much more than you'll get out of many service departments.
Try to PM Chris (Likemystoppie) and ask if there are any specific questions to ask that would help you get the information. What dealer did you buy from that won't help you find the info?

SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DON'T BUY FROM ME??!!
J/K!!

Tell me what your VIN is and I'll give you all the good morsals. More then happy to help anyone out! (YOU HAVE MY CONTACT INFORMATION...........I SEE YOU HIDING!! LOL)
I agree 100%, but is it worth the angst of getting nasty with your dealer when the information is available elsewhere without a fight? I didn't want to have my dealer take it out on me at the time of delivery. If you call Porsche directly, they might just contact your dealer and remind them that pre-delivery customer service is part of their job. A guilty conscience is a powerful thing. Where there is a will, there is a way, and getting the info you want should not require undue stress. I sort of enjoyed the ship tracking process as well. Let me know if I can help in any way.
I was told that my cab is on the Amity Ace. It exists but I can't seem to track it. I was told that the ships will come to Baltimore but one google listing has it coming to Wilmington with Volkswagens...I knew that one digit slip up in ordering would get me a Bug cab instead!!!
