Default PCCB protection while wheel changing

Suggestions? I have very little confidence in even the best wheel and tire shop here in the desert and want to offer them every chance to succeed.

Buy two of these from your Porsche dealer and insist that your tire shop use them.

You can also just buy (2) standard metric bolts at your local hardware store for ~$ 1.50 ea.
cut off the bolt heads with a hack saw and you have the same thing
(If you don't do the work yourself, wrap electrical tape around the bolts to prevent some careless mechanic from scratching your aluminum wheels )

You need 14mm bolts with 1.5mm thread , ~ 5 or 6 inches long

I NEVER take the Porsche in to a wheel/tire shop.

What I do is TAKE IN the wheels, already off the car.

I would NEVER trust a wheel and tire shop to understand and be sensitive to the ceramic brake issue.

Here's a better pic of the stud from Suncoast's website:

$8.95 from Suncoast. Much better to use these instead of a bolt with sharp threads. Also, your car should have them in the front tool kit area. AFAIK, all PCCB cars came with two of them. Have a look.

Cheers,

I also do what Edgy does. Even then you want to watch the guys doing the tire changing. When I mounted a set of all-seasons on a set of Carrerra III wheels I was there to mount the TPS sensors,(which they immediately started whining about). I then left to talk to the owner of the shop came back out to the shop where I noticed they had mounted a front tire on a rear wheel. When I pointed this out one of these geniusus asked "What difference does it make?" The owner had just walked up, heard this, and told me he now understood why I brought just the wheels in rather than the entire car.

I already have this in my standard tool kit from Porsche - doesn't everyone?

No. Make sure with PCCB's you use two per the manual.

This is why the only wheel and tire place I will use is Wheel Enhancement (which fortunately for me is local). Too many bad experiences with the usual tire monkeys.

For those who have PCCB's and are stuck somewhere else, maybe you should remind the shop owner that the rotors are about $3K each and you don't want him to have to buy you any new ones.

Do you own a 997 or a 996?

They ceased handing them out on 997s.

I use the wheel changing guides on my steel brake equipped car simply because it's less strain on my back to hoist those massive rear wheels into place. Small price to pay.
