Default Thoughts on value

I have had something come up and need to sell the Targa. It seems like there are a ton of new cars on dealer lots but only 1 or 2 used ones. Any ideas on what I should look to get for the car?

This was a launch car...

2007 Targa 4 (non S)
6 Speed
Turbo Wheels
Heated Seats
Bose, mirrors
Full Leather
ext warranty

Car is mint with 6k miles.

Thanks in advance.

The pic is from an identical car... This isn't an ad so I wasn't too concerned with the authenticity of the image.

I was interested as I have the exact same car.

According to Edmunds your car is worth:

Trade - $71,500

Private Sale - $76,000

Retail (dealer price) - $79,900

Considering I bought mine BRAND NEW in 1/08 for $78,000, MSRP was 93,000+, I would say if you get anywhere near the above figures you are in good shape.

Keep in mind, if you are trading for another car, you get to deduct the tax value of your car off the new car.

So if the new car is the same price as your trade, you would pay NO TAX, so the $71,500 from the dealer = $75790 in a 6% sales tax area such as PA.

If I were selling mine privately I would probably list mine for $79000 and see where it goes from there.

Good luck and I hope this info helps,

Howard

That tax deal doesn't work in all states. In many states the trade in is just part of how you pay for the new car, so you still get to pay sales tax on the new car purchase price, not the difference.

That sucks.

I have saved THOUSANDS of dollars doing this and it actually made trading the car in a better option.

Oh well, I tried.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the governor gets his piece in Maryland you pay the full boat on the new car as well. I am pretty sure I have put his kids through college.

Well, at least you know the car's value, good luck with the sale.

You were right for 2007, but when the State increased the sales tax in 2008 from 5% to 6%, they reinstated the provision allowing you to deduct the value of your tradein from the purchase price of the new car.

Is this true. You can deduct the sale value on a trade in? Anyone have a link. My local dealer is either misinformed or giving me the business.

i don't know what your car is worth, but i would be a bit pessamistic about the value of a targa 4 (esp non s). look at what the poster said, that he got a $15000 discount on a new one-they just don't seem like desireable cars-i wish you luck though.
