Default Engine hood release wire

Today, I noticed a wire attached to the engine hood lock / release mechanism. Apparently, this is used to
unlock the latch mechanism. However, this wire does Not lead to the Outside of the engine compartment. So , why is this wire present and where should the end of this release wire exit?

Ask Edgy01. He's forgotten more about 911's than all of know when combined.

Default The end is located

behind the left tail light if I remember correctly. Remove the lens assembly and it is taped down to the body. At least that is how my 07 997 Turbo has it situated. But it just occurred to me that you need to access the engine compartment to remove the lens assemlby! Not sure what's up with that.

Why Porsche put that cable where they put it is beyond me. It's not easy to get to. What they do is they place the cable through a hole into the metal-work BENEATH the left tail light. Then it goes back out through the left hole (see pic) so that it can be pulled from beneath. Obviously, you cannot take a tail light lens assembly off the car when the rear hatch is closed. I would search around and snake for it. The picture may give you an idea of what you're looking for. It is merely taped in position (I put back a piece of tape after the photo was taken) to keep it from getting dislodged from its position.

Thanks for all the responses. Edgy01, your picture is very helpful! Thank you. I plan to route the wire so that I can retrieve it if ever needed.

MY WIRE RUNS TO A HOLE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. YOU
CAN GET TO THE WIRE BY GETTIN UNDER THE CAR AND REACHING UP
TO THE HOLE.

Like most of you, I was surprise to see that cable behind the light. Couldn't figure it out why it was there. So I did the smart thing from those Porsche guys, I relocated the wire under the rear bumper so I can reach it in case emergency.

I think I remember a boot release wire somewhere when I put my GT3 bumper cover on. Maybe not though, that was last year.

Relocate it and tape behind the rear license plate. It pulls and works fine from that position. All you need is a Phillips head to remove the license plate and mount.
