Default X51 vs "Awe type" headers

Has anyone had a chance to compare results between short, ie X51 style headers vs long (most aftermarket ie Awe,etc) type? The two design approaches are obviously very different. Gerry

Read about the X51 headers on www.europipe.be under 997 S. Very interesting and www.suncoastporsche.com has them for $625.

I installed the X51 headers on my S. No noticeable difference other than slight accoustical enhancement.

David they are using 100 cell cats. That would account for most of any improvement noted. I think that may give CEL issues. Gerry

It does seem like the guys with 100 cell cats have more CEL issues. Some ECU tuning software can account for this so that you do not get the CEL. Not sure what Vortex in Tampa is using but they can fix this issue with CEL and no cats or 100 cel cats.

I did some research on this a while back. If and that is big if, I remember correctly the consensus at the time that people preferred the X-51 headers because they are about 1/3 price, they are a Porsche part, and the performance advantage over other designs is at most 5-8hp.

That being said AWE put a lot of time and effort into their design and per the website they get a decent gain in Hp. Again the consensus at the time wasn't worth the extra cost.

That being said I tried the really inexpensive e-bay headers and was very Satisfied until I came across a complete used AWE system for a very reasonable price.

So know I have the complete AWE exhaust for the cost of Cats and an x-51 headers. But I have removed the AWE muffler and put the stock exhaust back on for now for a quieter car.

Gents-

Check out this thread from 6speed. Todd did a great write up on cats and their differences.
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...d.php?t=121150

We ONLY use the 200 cell HJS cats in our systems.

If anyone has questions, shoot me an email or give me a call.

Hope this helps.
