It figures, In 35 years of driving I've never lost a windshield. But, 10 days and 14 hours into my first Porsche and I catch a rock and crack... a silver streak appears across the bottom left. I guess it could be worse. The paint and the wiper were unscathed.
I called the local Porsche Dealer and they said they replace the windshields there. Is there anything I need to aware of or concerned about with windshield replacements?

Since the Porsche dealer is doing it I wouldn't be too concerned. But, make sure they are using OEM glass. Check your seals very carefully to make sure they aren't damaged in the removal and reinstall. Since you're in Austin you probably don't need to worry about temperature but I'd have it done during mild weather. Since it cracked and isn't shattered the old piece probably comes out in one piece, but I'd ask what they do to protect your car from interior and exterior scratches and the possibility of getting slivers of glass in a vent on your dask (which could drive you nuts later).

Not the same in every state, in some states the position is as you say (i.e. its a mandatory coverage) but in others such as California it isn't.

Stand firm on request for OEM glass. Had an expert SafeLite installer who replaced our Lexus SUV windshield tell me that replacing 997 windshield was no big deal. Rain sensor requires extra care. It should work out fine.

I just called my insurance company and it's a $500 deductable for replacements, $0 deductable for repairs on glass <insert long string of profanity here>.
I'm not sure if we we can get a lower deductable. I don't think I asked when I moved from MA. MA has $0 deductable for auto glass.
Hey Eric, here's a product idea for you. Windshield plugs. You develop the product and I'll draft the patent application. All I want for it is a Denison unit since the cash that was earmarked for it just got reallocated.

Make sure t hey hook up the requisite antenna leads (e.g., radio, and navigation, if applicable). It seems that several Rennlisters have had windshields replaced only to find their nav systems were nonfunctional shortly after the event.

If I wanted to add a nav would this be an opportune time?
