Default Oil Consumption

I had my 07 997S in for a routine oil change today at around 10,000 miles. Fortunately, I have never had to add any oil to my car. I made that comment to the service adviser, and he commented that I was lucky because many of the "newer" cars used about a quart every 1,000 miles.

This is the funny part. He said those cars that "used" oil, had nothing wrong with them, the oil just EVAPORATES. LOL, I didn't even question him.

I almost wish my car burned more oil, so that it would drop to the correct level after the dealer over-filled it on my $800 oil change late last year. I still get full bars on the gauge after more than 2 months (about 800 miles).

Discuss what again? I thought the evaporation theory floated by my knowledgeable service adviser might provide a laugh for some. Feel free to not comment if you like.

No, I think 911Dave means the overfill bit that seems to get everyone so het up (it really doesn't matter if your car is full to the top, or even 1 bar above). There I'm doing it now.... Someone shut the thread down!

Actually, 911Dave wasn't talking to anyone in particular, so don't get all riled up. He was talking about the inevitable discussion of 997 oil usage where this thread is most likely headed. He appreciates the humor in the shop guy's reply however.

Don't you know that the engines that use more oil are producing much more PS? It's true!

Maybe the issue, if there is one, is in starting a new thread rather than using one of the 72 pre existing ones. Or maybe Dave hasn't gotten any lately. I'll go w the first possibility (jka dave) Gerry
