Default Is it possible to add the NAV module after factory?

If not the word module is poorly offered to describe this option.

I see a lot of cars optioned with Bose but no nav, quite annoying when I finally find a lightly optioned new C4S

So can it be done within warranty?

Yes. Suspect your dealership would warrant it as well if they did the installation.

Yes, it can be done. The cost of the NAV unit is $2,195 Plus install (figure 1K ). Or you can buy a top of the line Garmin for $800 that blows away the Porsche unit. Although the facotry unit is very nice...You may be surprised at how often you really need to use it...You can keep the garmin in the glove box and take it out as needed

It is really nice to have the factory installed NAV unit, however if you are actually looking at best in class navigation, the little Garmin units simply blow away the Porsche unit.

Can someone tell me the key differences? It would seem the factory one will be able to cut the audio on the stereo when directions are given.

Also I should amend this question to include, will I also be able to install the blue tooth integration or iPod adapter after factory? Few if any of the cars on lots appear to have this.

Factory is very easy to use. Change directions on the fly. Cut's audio when giving instructions(adjustable). Gives you navi directions in your multi function screen where the tach is/so you can look at something different on the PCM. Plug and Play.

PCM has an I/O on the back so you can integrate iPod or other device. - You can do that w/o the Navi unit installed; but depending on how much stuff you want-if you have a CD changer- you'll lose that.

iPod and Blue tooth are not factory options. Hope that helps.

I agree with others above that the Garmin is better and much cheaper. I have nav in my 05 C2S Cab, and find it so frustrating to use that I take my Garmin if I need nav. Muting is not an issue, as I can hear the Garmin instructions over the sound system, and I much prefer the map views and touch screen of my Nuvi 350. I wouldn't order nav if I purchased a new Porsche.
By mounting the Garmin on left side of windshield next to A pillar, I can see it better than a factory unit, without impairing vision, and I can program addresses in half the time with the touch screen than with that stupid **** arrangement on the factory unit.

And the Garmin models have bluetooth to synch with your phone! To look up the restaurant, type in "barbecue" or "chinese", select the one you like, "Call" to confirm they are open, and "Go" to get the directions, all on the same unit which is annually updateable to current for about $100.

I got the 370 with Bluetooth and European maps for $480 delivered from Amazon. Smaller footprint for portability. They are cheaper now.

Hard to beat. Likely to be upgraded soon with these declining prices, but why wait?

Is the Garmin unit mounted just with the suction cups?

Yes, one large one with a vacuum lever to activate it. I've attached a photo of mine mounted in my C55. It powers on and off with ignition, and can be easily removed from bracket.

I hate all the extra devices in the car, but the Garmin unit is 100x better than the P-Nav. Actually the Nav in the Chevy is better than the one in my $100k car.

KeninIrvine,

Thanks for the picture. What's the power source if mounted on that side - traditionally it would have been the cig lighter, I presume?

I wired it back to my rear cig lighter on my C55, via an extension cord under the driver's seat. It is an ignition-switched lighter so makes it convenient. For the Porsche, I would run it to a new cig lighter I installed under dash that is switched. I currently use that one for my Passport, but could put a splitter and run the Garmin as well. I seldom need nav in my Porsche, and if I do, I just throw the Garmin on the passenger seat.

I had a new Pioneer head unit installed with nav and DVD player - very well done and great sound.
