My dealer (after asking for it) got one for me. Took me about 3 tries for PCNA to get it right. (They left off all sorts of stuff). Interestingly, my certificate does NOT show my color at all. It merely states "Paint To Sample." (Just like the Monroney Sticker)...

 

 

My dealer has given them to me on the new cars I have purchased, but they really don't mean much.

OTOH, for my 356B, 48 years later it confirms that I still have my original trans and engine, so I have a "matching numbers" car, so much more interesting with an older car.

 

For you guys bought the car new from dealer, did you also receive a nice little 'tin box' that has a Porsche logo stamped on it?

I got mine placed in the passenger seat when I picked up my car at the dealer. I told my wife, "Oh, how nice! Porsche gave us cookies!"

When I opened the tin box... There was no cookies, but just a stack of useless Porsche borchures in it.

For you guys who have CoAs, you can get inexpensive pre-made frames from Michaels and put them up in your garage. It's a nice touch.

 

I purchased my car used and it didn't come with a window sticker and the option codes placard under the lid didn't list all of the options which were obviously on the car. So I bought a COA to try to determine the option codes and msrp. What a waste of money! The COA listed a few options and then something about (can't remember the verbage) special wishes and no msrp. So, no confirmation of codes, no msrp, no value.

 

Unless someone added more to the car after manufacture, the option codes placard sould have all the options that were part of the manufacture order. Which ones were missing?

 

The sticker doesn't always have all the option codes. My 86 928S was missing 7 of the codes.

As for the COA, I bought one each for my '86 911 and my 928. Both of them contained errors, including saying they had an "unknown" date of manufacture. A quick call to 1-800-PORSCHE confirmed the exact dates for both cars. The rep couldn't fathom why the COAs would say unknown because the information comes from the same database that he queried. I talked to the COA department and they sent me corrected ones.

And guess what? My 997 COA (which the dealer paid for) also contains an error on one of the options. Botttom line: the people handling the COA program are pathetically incompetent.

 

I think the dealer should send you a laminated and "suitable for framing" copy of your purchase check.

 

That's kinda what I was thinking - thought it would be something nice to hang on the wall.

My wife is still making fun of me though LOL. I told her I was going for a drive this morning and she said "why don't you just look at that COA you bought"

I'd have to look at the COA which is at my office and compare to the list on the car and what I know is installed. What I concluded when I got the COA is that when the car goes into the special wishes department they add stuff without putting the code on the sticker or placard. For example my car has deviating stitching on seats, dash, doors, etc. but that does not show up on the COA. My situation might possibly be unique in that according to the dealer it was originally imported by Porsche as some sort of show car.

 

Yes, she is very cool and understands my "vices" and has given up on trying to figure out why I do some of the things that I do LOL!
