Default OT: have you ever rued selling a car?

Every year, at about this time, I watch the Barrett-Jackson auctions and cringe. In the 70s, in a private deal, I took a (cherry) 1969 Z28 Camaro in trade in a three-way swap. I sold it for the $1,900 that I paid for it - nobody wanted a gas-hog. The good ones go for more than $100K now.

To add insult to injury, I was working at a Porsche-Audi dealer at the time and the employee price for a new 1977 911S was in the low teens - unfortunately that was just about my annual salary.

Hell, yesterday I was reading some old issues of Excellence from 2000/2001 and the 356s were selling for less than half of what they command now.

Yes - sold a 71 911T when I moved from California to Texas because it didn't have airconditioning.

when I moved to US from uk I sold my 1969 mk1 ford escort which was half way through being built into a 500bhp turbo cosworth powered gp4 rally car. Shells are becoming rare and I know I will regret selling such a good one

Unfortunately no where to store it and dont kniw if I am ever going back!

Yup, when I sold my mint 69 Z28...
I had it for 18 yrs and cringe watching Barrett-Jackson, and even though I did make a couple $$ when I sold it.... I could buy a brand new Pcar for what it's worth today....

The only car that I really regret selling is my 2003 Lancer Evolution. It was simply too much fun to be a practical four door car.

I think I will live to regret selling my 1985.5 Alfa Romeo GTV6. Prices not there now but the bell curve may have bottomed out and the value of the car may now be on the ascendancy.

Well, I regret selling my Yugo... how many do you see in the highway? Very rare indeed isn't it. Probably less out there than 300SL Gullwings! Hmmmm, wonder if I kept it could I get 500k for it.

I regret the sale of my Jaguar E-type coupe and AH3000, both sold to finance the purchase of 1985 Autokraft Cobra in 2005. I regretted selling my 1984 Targa since 1999, when I sold it to help pay for an SLK, so I bought another Targa, this time a 1987, last October. Had a real nice low mileage TR6 that I sold when I bought the aforementioned 1984 Targa. I missed that car for about 15 years so I got another one, almost as nice, a couple years ago. Sold an XK120 to get my Boxster in 2004, but never looked back. Most everything I have sold is easily replaceable though, not like some of the rare, high dollar muscle cars. John

Several I regret selling - I bought a 1967 Triumph TR4A-IRS in 1971 that had been garaged stored after one month's use. The owner was subsequently killed in Vietnam. That car, which was absolutely perfect, had 1100 miles on the odo! I bought it for $1750 and sold it 2 years later with around 10K miles for $2500, in order to buy a 1972 BMW 2002. Also kicking myself for selling a custom made 1960 Gibson ES-335 cherry red, semi-solid body guitar for $165. Some of the early ones are now going in the $20K range. A bit OT, but in 1969, I pulled into a Toyota dealer in NJ who had a brand new white over black Toyota 2000GT coupe on the floor. He didn't know how it made it into the US since it was gray market, but it showed up at his dealership and he would sell it for MSRP - or $7,100. A lot of $$ in those days, but the car's now worth around $200K+ in great shape. I knew it would be a great investment, but just couldn't afford it.

I guess most of all, I regret giving away my baseball cards from the 50s

I regret selling every car I ever bought.

Maybe, I should have regretted buying every car I ever sold!

The four that really get me:

1. 1994 E500
2. 1993 RS America
3. 2007 GT3
4. 2004 R32

My New Years resolution... sell no more (or fewer) cars!

There are a few cars that I regret not buying, but that is another topic.

Never should have sold my 03 NSX. So hard to find now. I don't even miss my Carrera S, but there's something about the NSX... Different league.
