Default Dealership ratio of Cayman vs 911

I live in New Orleans. Presently the stock at my local dealership is 12 Cayman vs 1 911. Last year they didn't stock very many 911.

What does this mean?

I have a 2007 Cayman S and I just bought a 2006 C2S.

We have the same thing here in Houston. Way more Caymans on the lot than 911s. I think one reason for this may be that more people order 911s configured exactly as they want them. Cayman sales are probably more first time Porsche owners that are more accustomed to buying off the lot.

It may be that guys like me who had Boxsters didn't want to step up to a Boxster HT. ...or it may be that gawd awful forehead at the top of the windshield that's got the market constipated.

I don't see the lure or need for a 'tween model. Make the best at both ends of the spectrum; then let the CPOs bridge folks like me, who simply can't emotionally justify that break-in called first-mile depreciation.

Probably because the 911 sells and the Gayman doesn't.

Price point of Cayman is too high...it's been somewhat of a flop from a U.S. demand perspective...hence the high supply.

I think they keep the 911s "off exhibit", to give them an air of exclusivity, rarity, and relative value vis a vis the Caymen. Porsche has become a master at marketing.

I asked my dealer this very question a few weeks ago. Porsche pumped-up the production of the Cayman expecting it to be a huge success. It has not been for numerous reasons. Price, practicality and market demographics. Dealers are now stuck with all of these caymans with more coming in! Good news is if you are like me and looking to pick-up a used Cayman S for the track in a year or so.

Gayman....hahahahaha
Seriously, though, it's a great car. I would pick a 911 over it anyday, but it's still a great car.

Actually the Cayman and Cayman S are fantastic cars. But truthfully sports cars in that price point are appealing to the people who are being hardest hit by the economy. Especially sports cars that are only two up and people aren't willing to drive in the winter.

we're blowing cayman's out. Sadly, I think the Cayman came out three years too late to get a real momentum out.

Well, my wife drives her CaymanS every day here in SE Michigan, with snow tires on it, and has no problem. BTW, she loves the car.

I was told by a P-dealer that the factory requires "bouquets" (his word) of purchases - so many Caymans, Cayennes in order to get a few 911s and maybe a turbo. Only the real volume dealers get a lot of 911s to stock and show. The mix of the bouquet obviously includes a lot more Caymans and they haven't sold as well as they might have wanted. Tough when its positioned between the M coupe and the 911 price-wise, plus there are a lot available used at very good discounts to new.

Does anyone know the breakdown of Porsche's prodution lines/sites, which one produces which model?

I wonder if it would be because Porsche is freeing up the 911 production line (or retooling) to make the upcoming Panorama?

With best regards,
