Default 997 Battery Question

It appears that the battery in my '05 Carrera S is going dead. The car struggles to start so I assume this is the first thing to check. I have read the other threads about the wire harness, but think that I will start with the battery since that is easy. Anyway my question is does anyone know what batteries are a direct replacement other than the stock one? I have tried to find a replacement on Interstate's web site, Optima's website, Odyssey's web site, etc, but no one seems to make a replacment for a 05 Carrera S.

Any advice is appreicated.

997s are all too new to take issues like this into your own hands; I'd say let roadside tow the car to your dealer and let them diagnose the problem.

FWIW, my first battery refused to hold a charge after about 12 months and 2k miles. Dealer installed a new one, and it's holding strong after 14 months and 2200 miles.

2200 miles in 14 months? What's the point in having a car like that if you don't drive it?

the car must have an alternator lamp, its pretty easy to assess whether an alternator is functioning - either 13.5V+ can be measured across the battery while the engine is running, or it can't. The circuit to detect a non functional alternator and illuminate the warning lamp, is trivial. If you have no such warning light, its the battery - unless you have some exotic problem like that poster who had a weak hot side connection to his starter.

You can take the battery to Battery Plus and have them do a free load test on it. If the battery will hold a load then you have a charging issue. Why have the dealer sell you a new battery if its still good!

Take it in and let the dealer check on the electical system. Even if the battery is dead, I believe if you have more than 7,500 mile/year, it should still be under warrenty.

The 997 has rougly 4700 now. I have a daily driver street car, so I really only drive the 997 to, at, and from the track. That said, I'm looking forward to selling my street car and putting the 997 back to exclusive street use; the 997 is too nice to drive so rarely.

Put a battery tender on any car that is not used regularly.

Carlo thanks for the alternator test info, I will give it a try.

I stopped by my dealer yesterday and spoke with the service manager who told me that it is not covered unless the car has been driven 6k miles a year, which I am just under.

I also purchased a trickle charger from the parts counter and hooked it up last night. I will see if that helps.

He's correct about the 6k miles/year...but don't you think a Porsche service manager would have a difficult time making a statment like that knowing the impact it could have on customer relations - boggles my mind.
