Default oil/water on oil cap

When I was topping off my oil today, I saw some oil/water mixture gunk on the inside of my oil filler cap. I did a search here and found a few posts stating that this is normal. Is this really normal? Car is a year old and has about 15k miles on it. I changed the oil myself 8k miles ago.

I recall a pic showing a whole bunch of something that looks like Crisco on the inside of the filler cap. IIRC, the bottom line was that it does happen to some people and that the remedy was to drive long enough for the oil temp to get above 212 for a while.
I myself use my car for many many relatively short duration trips where the oil just barely makes it to the 200+ range but I have never had the gunk on my cap.

Agree with what dave said ^ !

On the other hand, maybe your car caught the clap. Has it been hanging out with BMW's lately?

While you may not have it, it is very normal.

If it is exactly as you have described it is normal for an engine that isn't allowed to get up to operating temperatures for a long enough period. When you start to get something that begins to affect the coolant tank, looking like a pinkish thick pancake batter, then you have an entirely different problem and it is significant,--where engine oil and engine coolant have been allowed to come together. This is much rarer in the 997s, and would routinely be caught much earlier.

The solution to your problem? Drive the car on longer drives.
