Default Market Check

Just informational. Have been toying with the idea of trading my '06 C2S cab for a Targa 4S.

Built several different cars and finally ended up with one that totalled out at $110,900. Went into the dealer to see what we could negotiate.

They estimated the cab to be worth about $65K (in March '08 timeframe). I tend to agree with that estimate.

They offered to take $3900 off the Targa for a purchase price of $107K.

You can always do better if you sell the existing car yourself. That also lets you shop freely at non-local dealers for the replacement. But you have to be willing to do some homework!

How many miles do you have on your '06? Anything else you can share would be great, as that may be the time that I'm able to pull the trigger.

Sure thing. Seal Grey/black with 13.3K miles. Have had it for 18 months.

Lightly optioned: Heated seats, self-dimming mirrors, Bose, colored wheel crests. sport shifter, thick steering wheel, wind block.

Also have a clear bra. A must have in New England.

You have to take in to account the tax differential.

I see... That's something which doesn't cloud the issue in my state.

I drove my T4S today in EG and Warwick today before the snow with the top open, and it was actually pretty comfortable.

Do you have snow tires on? I took the C2S out last night in the heart of the "storm". No trouble getting through about 1" of snow/ice. Although I had to be easy on the throttle as the rear end would brake loose very easily.

Still, I had fun sliding around the neigborhood.

I traded my '03 C4 Cab for a '07 C4S Cab 3 months ago. MSRP$115. '03 had 15k on it and it was really clean. I gave them $52k and was thrilled with the deal. I figure they gave me about $10k off list. FYI.

If you're thinking Spring '08 far a new purchase you might want to hold off until the new models come out. I have an '06 C2S and I'm looking at getting a T4S as well but the '09's might be out by 2nd quarter '08 with extra HP and hopefully the new transmission.

You can usually sell for a better price yourself. However, when you factor in the hassle plus the tax break from trading in, it is often not worth it. Also, I'm not sure how intent you are on having the Targa to your exact specs, but I think there are a few new 07s floating around at substantial discounts. It may be worth doing a search. I've seen discounts in excess of $10,000 a month or so ago, and if there are any still left, I assume dealers are hungrier than ever to get rid of them.

A good point, and one that I considered for the last several months. However, I found an '08 that was nearly identical to the one I "built" and I'm going to make the trade.

Plan on picking it up tomorrow actually. The interesting aspect of the deal (to me) is that the dealer is giving me $72K for the '06 C2S cab. I only mention that number because it speaks to the original post's intent. That is, to get an idea of what the market will bear at this moment.

Besides, I'll probably keep the '08 T4S for 2 years and then try out the upcoming 998.
