Default 997 Carrera S -- SPACER question

I have an 06 997 Carrera S with aerokit and Carrera S wheels. My feeling is that the wheels could stand to be pushed out to the edge of the car more.

Has anyone used spacers in this application? Maybe I should just H&R the car and lower it a little...

IDEAS?? Pictures?

You can space out 5-10 mm. What does H&R offer? Their products are hubcentric and high-quality.

I think his H&R comment was referring to lsprings to lower the car. I had to read it twice to catch teh change in subject.

I have OEM 5mm spacers on my C2. Do a search, there're several threads on spacers and lowering kits.

I have a C2s. I use 5mm fronts and 15mm rear. Brought out the rears almost flushed with fender. No rubbing of fenders with stock height. I think this combination makes the C2s look just right.

Other than looking cool, is there any functional reason for the 5mm spacers for normal street driving?

Would the spacers detract from the ride?

The simple answer is yes. That added material (metal) to that unsprung mass would alter the handling of the car in a small way. But think about it. 5mm? That's nothing when it comes to spacing. Can you SEE 5mm from 20 ft away?

I went through a similar search for spacers several months back and thought my experiences would be helpful. I have a 07 C2S and decided on: 7mm front, 15mm rear. I purchased them through www.wheelenhancement.com, they are great!

Price break-down:
Pair of 7mm spacers (not hub centric) and 10 Porsche factory extended length lug bolts were $127.50 + shipping.
Pair of 15mm H&R spacers (hub centric) and 10 H&R extended lug bolts were $145.00 + shipping.

I bought them to fill out the wheel well and enhance the look (at least I think they've enhanced the look). Handling, I cannot tell a difference. On the track they were just fine, no issues. My car is lowered with H&R springs and I have no rubbing at all.

If I could do it again I would go with a slightly wider spacer in the front... perhaps a 9mm would be perfect. The rears are perfect, but the front can visually benefit (IMO) with a 2 or 3mm wider spacer than the 7mm that I have on there now. That might require an H&R hub centric brand and perhaps aftermarket (H&R) lug bolts, but would be worth it! And I might go with a slightly smaller rear spacer maybe down 1mm to a 14mm. So if I could do it all over again, my vote would be: 9mm front, 14mm rear, but this is being really picky.

Give Dave a call at Wheel Enhancements: 310-836-8909 or email him: dave@wheelenhancement.com and he'll set you straight.

FYI: I price shopped as well and found them to not only have the best internet pricing/availability, but also most knowledgeable, respectful, and professional.

Regards

I should also note that I am using the OEM factory "lobster fork" 19inch Porsche wheels.

Hi,
I bought the Porsche 5mm wheel spacers. The
ride is the same. Just need to be more careful
not to get curb damage.

Default Spaced Out

My 07 C2S came slightly used with 18mm. spacers for the aftermarket 19" wheels. They put my Piolot S2s to the fender edge. When I tracked the car at VIR, everything went well. Everyone on this board likes Wheel Enhancement for wheel mods. Join this group and send us some pictures.

I'm just a mechanical engineer that has forgotten most of what he ever learned, but don't spacers on the front wheels screw up the steering geometry? Given that the stock offsets theoretically cause the steering pivot point to align with the center of the front wheels, I would expect that any different offset would move the steering pivot point away from the center of the wheels, and thus cause some handling degradation as well as tire scrub in turns. The back wheels aren't as critical since they aren't turning.

True for some of the larger spacers in terms of weight.
I just weighed these recently:
5mm spacer = 210 grams
5 Porsche lug bolts = 500 grams
I think Walter Rohl would be hard pressed to feel the added weight of a 5mm spacer!
