F1 trans is lame, it is for people who spend their time in their big S550 MB all year and put 200 miles on their ferrari a year and dont know how to drive stick very well...if you can drive stick and drive it smoothly and often, def get a 6 speed, nothing like the clink sound when shifting through the gate

i have put about 20k miles on a 6 speed 550, i have put a few thousand miles on both a 612 F1 and a F430 F1, it is so uninvolving and boring to have the F1. Unless you plan on tracking the car where the F1 will help better your lap times i think the 6 speed is the way to go. Being friends with the service guy at the dealership he always tells us of guys getting between 1k-2k miles out of their 6 speed clutches because these guys dont know what they are doing and just rip them apart...these are the same guys that get F1 tranny's on their next car. When we bought our 550 we were told that history says we will get between 5-10k out of the clutch if we are good....we had our clutch replaced at 35k miles........

How do you mess up a clutch so quickly, what is it that you do that causes this to happen? Is it revving very high and dropping the clutch or something else?
Sorry, dont mean to thread jack

I have had in the last 5 years 4 Ferraris 360 F1 Coupe, 360 Spider gearshift, 575 F1 and 430 coupe gearshift. I did like the F1 in the 575, because it is a GT car, though I prefer the gearshift in the 430, or the 360. My 430 the day I picked it up from Algar Ferrari

The problem with my 430 Challenge is that the decals are not sticky enough, and the bottom plate in front keeps lifting off one of the struts. Also the seat is not very adjustable.
OOPS! I thought this was the LEGO forum.

With a 3-pedal car, you have to control slippage. Notwithstanding a car that inherently eats clutches (think Countach), how quickly the clutch wears is a function of the driver.
I used to think that F1 trans cars were awful and boring, but after a few thousand miles in a 360CS and 430, I actually like them. They're nearly faultless on the track - thought it feels like cheating to me - and on the street, it's just another way to interact with the car. That said, the auto mode on the 430's F1 transmission is AWFUL. Like, really, really bad. It's not smooth and its shift points match those of an arthritic grandmother.
