Default Tracking problem on "some" road surfaces?

On "some"" road surfaces at highway speed the car seems to move around. Kind of like your driving in a cross wind, but there is none.

I have a 07 C2 with Brigstone RE050A tires. Running 33psi Front and 37psi rear.

Had a 03 Boxster prior to the 997 and never noticed this on the same highway.

I think I recall some discussion about the Bridgestones doing this. Not so much a problem with mine. Your rear pressures are pretty low.

I've noticed this too, though infrequently and not what I could describe as intrusive. Mine's too infrequent to describe it as that.

I did read a review where "hunting" has been a problem w/ these cars. So far, not really a problem here (yet), though I have notices it some on some road surfaces. Others' experience may share it that problem more......?? (PS zero's here)

Could be a force balance and wheel alignment issue. An alignment warranty is good for a one-year period... it could also be a loose stabilizer bar or something in the suspension (corner balance).

Please let us know how you resolved this issue.

All the best!

dgcate:

No, I-85 south between Greenville & Clemson. It's a fairly new 3 lane concrete. May have some grooves in it, I can't tell.

Going to be in your town on Saturday for the UT/USC game!

Go Vols!

Wide tires tend to follow groves and toward the bottom of crowns in roads more than regular tires. Cars with suspension tuning which make it easier for you to to rotate the car in a turn will be more affected by external forces from the road surface which make the front wheels turn.

Sports cars often make poor choices for long distance driving (although I still find it fun). I am more surprised about your Boxster comment than your car moving around on some surfaces comment.

If the problem is ever NOT there, it's probably not the car!
It's called "tramlining" and 911s are actually effected less than most sports cars due to their relatively narrow front tires.
