Default Throttle surge at 3,000 RPM?

Sometimes I get a small surge at about 3,000 RPM. Is this normal? I have a 2007 3.6L C2. Had a 2003 Boxster with the 2.7L prior to the 997 and don't remember ever having this problem.

I get the same thing (07 Targa 4). Feels like a small push just as you reach/pass that rpm mark. Something to do with the VarioCam?

This is the vario-cam at work... mostly notice if going slow, however, if you step on it the surge is barely noticeable. Therefore, the remedy is to unleash the beast!

Agreed, it is the VarioCam and should "kick in" at about 3,200 to 3,400 RPMs.

I do/did not have this with either of the 2 997 S's I've owned and I generally notice every little thing...the service dept just loves that about me lol...

No, not currently looking at a 997, but I wish that were the case.

I have been hanging out here for quite a while reading and learning a lot. Every now and then, on certain topics, I can offer some info that may help others.

I too get the surge at 3,100 RPM. Very noticeable, but I kinda like it. Thought it may be Vario-Cam, which is okay, but if it was a fuel mapping issue I would have complained.

BTW, Carrera GT sighting last Saturday on the way to a track day on the Duc. It was probably leaving Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX when I spotted the silver zephyr. Gorgeous!

The surge is NOT always related to the variocam operation. At 3120 rpm and 30%+ throttle, your resonance valve is closed to shorten the length of the intake.

I have noticed it also, my service manager said it is the vario-cam.
