Default please explain et to me

I see wheels advertised as "Sizes 18x8 et50mm, 18x10 et47/65mm"

what does et mean?
Is this the correct size for a 997s?

thanks

Not sure what et stands for but it is the wheel offset in mm. Best to go to one of the tire websites. Try here http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=wheels

It's important to get the offset correct for both inside clearance and outside.

For a C2 the OEM 997 18 inch wheels are 8x18 et 57mm front and 10x18 et 58mm rear.
For a C4 only the rear et changes from 58mm to 51mm.

ET comes from the German word Einpresstiefe meaning offset (according to the quick search I just did!): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_(wheel)

And I believe the rim width for the C4 goes from 10" to 11"
Widebody S or turbo models go to 19 x 11 with ET also 51
