Default 997 3.6 Stock Exhaust Hack - :)

I copied Gundo's crossover pipe hack - This is a sweet hack. It works great on a base 3.6 997! I am very impressed with the results. It takes minimal effort and costs me $140 total. The sound is very nice and rich. It’s not too loud and does not cause any droning in the cabin. At idle it is almost impossible to tell with the exception of a slight little burble… and as the RPM’s pick up so does the sound.

I’ve attached a link to a video clip. I purposefully took the video outside to avoid any resonance. Please excuse the house – we are in the middle of having it painted!

Thanks Gundo! A most excellent hack!

Yes, but can you do that same hack to surfingbuddhist's avatar?

I'm not sure if it will work with surfingbuddhist's avatar but I am also willing to give it a try

The hack will work for any stock 3.6 or 3.8 exhaust. I had a 2" crossover pipe welded between the inlet and exhaust pipes at Meineke Muffler then painted them with very high temp header paint and put the mufflers back in. Very VERY simple.

This was not my idea - a fellow 997 hacker (Gundo) did this to his 997S. I'll get pics up tomorrow.

Default No - a bit different

It's a simple 2 inch crossover pipe between the inlet and outlet pipes... you can see where it's been welded (I stole this pic from Gundo...). Mine is the same with the exception of painting with VHT paint.

That is exactly what I did to my 993. It is called an LPPM mod after a guy on the 993 forum. There is a rennlister called FISTERD that does these for people and it is very reasonable. He also uses Stainless and they are works of art when he is done. Do a search for LPPM on the 993 forum. Best mod yet! Do you know if the 997 S and non S use the same mufflers?

So you're basically bypassing the mufflers? How can that be legal w/ inspection time???

Yep, bypassing the mufflers. Not sure how it would be illegal though.

Im have been contemplating doing this mod for a while now. I want to pick up another set of stock mufflers though and make the hack on them.

What are your immpressions so far? Any downsides? Have you compared this to any other aftermarket mufflers (fabspeed, awe, tubi?, if so which is louder?

I have just bought some stock mufflers from ebay for $100 to do this hack on. Anyone know anywhere in westchester NY where I could get the modifications done?
