I'm sorry, but I don't have too much compassion for someone who essentially stole the car to do this. I don't have a problem with the speed, but how he came to get his hands on the car. I suspect he's off their employment roster...

According to NYLawyer.com, he quit his job the day after he was caught/charged.

I find it hard to believe that he wasn't allowed to drive the car. It's a car rental co.?? Dumb move on his part but it sounds like the employer maybe hung him out to dry. If it was the good o'l USand A that guy would already have found a way to make a buck off of his misdeeds and law/history breaking shenanigans.
