Never really gave this much thought until I saw this ridiculous article in Forbes (they apparently have a thing for lists).
http://www.forbes.com/forbeslife/veh..._0810cars.html
$17k per year to insure?! Are they just selling magazines or does it really cost that much in certain markets (Cali/NYC)? I pay $2k in Chicago with a clean record.

2007 911 4S with State Farm in CA for a 50 year old driver, $1000 deductable, $741 every 6 months (actually the 1st six months of the car ownership).
Therefore, the Forbes figures must be the cost of insurance over the "life" of the car.

You would think. However, do they do explicitly say "It should come as no surprise that the more expensive the car, the more it will cost to insure it. But just how expensive may come as a shock. For modest coverage ($500 deductibles on collision and comprehensive coverage, $100,000 each for personal and property coverage and $25,000 each for medical and uninsured coverage) on this year's $135,400 Mercedes SL, owners will pay about $22,536 a year."

Occasional Driver
< then 10K KM /yr
However $6K in deductable (not going to call my insurance for a dingy ..if I do call them it would be for a good one)
I pay $800/yr and that is Canadian !

USAA as well and nothing at all like that, even in California. These numbers are completely bogus. If they were correct they wouldn't have sold 100,000 of these.

What do you expect from a magazine that says "its teardrop shape keeps it aerodynamic"? The 997's Cd is average at best, and previous 911 variants were horrendous.
What an atrocious bit of editing. I would have expected that kind of reporting from Consumer Reports, but not Forbes. Wow.

Probably the person that wrote the article is 21 years old and got a quote at face value. The conversation probably went like this... 21yrs old, that’s going to cost you half an arm and a complete leg POW $17K per year take it or leave it!
This reminds me of a friend many years ago, he turned 19 years old and purchased a brand new Mustang, but none would insure him with 10 speeding tickets within a (3) year span. However, this company called Farmers Insurance provided him with a whopping quote of 9,750 dollars. He had to sell the car within weeks and lost $3K in the transaction. The moral of this story, check with your insurance first before purchasing your toys!

I'm single, in my 30's, have high limits coverage with reasonable deductibles, live in a SoCal zip code that became famous as HQ for a couple car theft rings, and my insurance is less than 10% of that. Maybe a rate like that is possible for someone in his 20's, with a DUI, accident and tickets, in NYC or someplace like that.
