I live and work in Houston, but we keep a lakehouse for every other weekend on Lake Travis outside of Austin. We have always used my wife's Lexus LX470 for the trip; comfortable, but on "driving novacaine".
Just took the P-car via Hwy 290, which treated me to FM 2222 as a closure to the trip. My first experience carving canyons in the Porsche------NOW I finally understand what I paid for!
Was thinking of selling the C2S.........NO WAY. Thank you Austin, for saving my ride.
Now I need to discover other Austin / Hill Country roads to explore. Any ideas?

It's starting to get a bit built out, but Lime Creek Road is also a great ride. Lower speed and a lot, lot twistier than 2222 and perfect for stretching your cars legs a bit. Looks a bit like this.
Downtown to the lake via 2222, to spicewood springs, to lime creek road to 1431 is tremendous fun. Do you head in via 290 or 71? Here's one of my favorite drives:

Or click here for a zoom-able version. This is one of my all-time favorite drives (and passes within about 100 yards of my house, so if you're zooming through at lunchtime let me know...)

At the north end of that drive, hanging a left on 1431 can result in quite a bit of fun, once you get a few miles down the road. It's not all that curvy, but you can really stretch the car's legs.

Those roads are well patrolled by the law. Lime Creek Rd is notorious for speed freaks, esp crotch rockets - hence the county mounties are out looking for "enthusiasts". Beware!

Take 1431 west, hit Park Road 4 in Marble Falls to play around the lakes, then take 29 west to Llano and grab some brisket at Cooper's BBQ.
If you're not in a hurry getting back to Houston, take 696 just east of Elgin all the way to 21. 696 was always deserted and was my "secret test track."
