Hello all, I do some DEs and must have gotten the hubs pretty hot. It appears that portions of the hubs have lost some paint and are actually beginning to rust. Anyone have any experience painting/resurfacing the hubs?
If you are referring to the rotor hats, it's a common problem. Remove wheels, mask off areas, remove rust, and paint with high temp engine paint. Good for a few years.

ECS - I didn't like the way the OEM paint looked on my 996 "top hats" so I painted them a silver. It is not that hard to do. Here is a link the thread I posted on the 996 Forum in August of last year. The paint still looks as fresh today as it did when I painted them almost a year ago.
The paint I used is mentioned if the first post. Sorry about the pic quality in post #1. I didn't recall that they were that grainy. There are better pics later in the thread. Pay close attention to post #21 and you can save yourself a lot of time "masking off" the rotors and still end up with a perfectly trimmed paint job. You just let the brake pads clean off the excess paint.
Remember to cover the entire car with a drop cloth (the cheap, disposable plastic kind will work), because the overspray will settle on EVERYTHING in the garage. Don't ask me how I know this.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the process.
