Dan - that is a crazy-*** pic you took!

Were you at all worried the car would come crashing down?

Also, do a search for EZ Top and you'll find my GIF of the eZtop in operation...
Thanks again. I called Newport dealer today, and these things are so unwanted, they have 2 that have been deteriorating outside! Also found one advertised privately for $400 in color I want. So it appears with a little patience and perseverance they can be obtained relatively inexpensively. NB dealer rep didn't know that a 996 would fit a 997, and didn't know what was involved to retro-fit a 997 (other than a "couple of clamps for the back"). Will need to find someone that knows what is involved and has done it before.

Will check the EZ Top

WRT to the hard top question, I've been thinking about this too lately. I was even thinking of putting a black hard top on my yellow cab, thought it might look good.
There are plenty on ebay for 996's and having just found out they fit the 997 the hunt will intensify.
Didn't know a kit was required, does this come with the top usually or is it a trip to the dealer affair?

The kit will probably consist of the mounting points in the rear which need to include a special electrical connection for the rear window defroster. The driver's side mounting post has electrical connections integrated into it. I suspect any Porsche dealership will have retrofit directions from a workshop manual.

I have heard but cannot confirm that there are two different part numbers for the 996 tops. (They changed something on them mid-model) and can't be sure the first version fits as well. The manual should be the final authority.

Crashing down, Gundo? No way. These cars are very rigid!

I guess I meant more that the car could slip off the stands, perched in what looks to be a pretty precarious position.

Carlos,

I just let PS CS2 do the hard work for me. Just take a series of photos (tripoded of course) and then go to HELP in PS for step by step instructions in how to do it. PS CS2 does all the work today for you.

I guess I'm confused. You test drove the cab before you bought it but now find it noisy and harsh. Hmmm. Either you didn't test it for long enough or you might want to check tire wear and tire pressures to see if either is contributing to noise and harshness.

Mine feels Buick soft in terms of ride and it's certainly not appreciably noisier than my previous Coupe.

I'm looking to buy a 997 and recently test drove a 2005 Coupe with 20,000 miles on it. I found the car reasonably quiet, with most of the noise coming from the tires. I too thought that it might be tiring to listen to the noise, especially on a poor road or on a long trip. I have looked at Cabs before but couldn't live with the creaking and sqeaking from the soft top (maybe it was a poor fit, needing adjustment).

Have you assessed whether most of the noise is coming from the top or the tires? Some have suggested that when the tires get worn down they are noisier. Can anyone comment on this?

The roadways themselves are the biggest noise contributor, followed by the tire type/brand, according to my observations.
