I'd say skip the MFSW and Tiptronic. I live in LA as well, got a Tiptronic for the other half, she got tired of the driving a sports car after a few months, and now I'm going to have to spend big money to trade for a manual. Plenty of threads on this forum debating the transmissions, but IMO if you must have an automatic, get a MB SL or something other than a 911...the automatic just takes so much away from the experience.

Contrary to the comments of others, however, resale here isn't any worse with a Tiptronic...in fact it may be better.

I don't have nav or phone, and only use the MFSW for the volume control. I wouldn't get it again...I'd rather have the sportier standard S round-hub wheel and reach the four inches to the volume ****.

I do have power seats, and if you are making concessions for somebody else, I recommend them. Not only do they have memory connected with the key for when you get back in, but the adjustable lumbar makes for a really comfortable seat. The only difference I notice with the sport seats is the more confining shoulders...great on the track when both hands are on the wheel, not so great sitting in traffic.

Color and leather options are personal preference, but IMO either go all out or don't bother with leather options. I didn't bother, and have no regrets.

Thanks for the good insight. How much of a hit are you taking on your 911? What car/options did you get?

No immediate plans to replace it (probably by the end of the year), not sure which 997 it will be replaced with (could be anything from a used C2 to a new GT3), and not sure how I'll go about replacing it (sell privately or trade-in). But if it wasn't for the transmission, I'd keep the current car indefinitely.
