Default Short shifter

I had a 2006 Carrera S with the short shifter but gave this to my son and got a 2007 Turbo. The short shifter was a little tight when cold but otherwise great. My wife and I looked at perhaps 15 cars at the local dealer (on their computer) and none had the short shifter. Anybody know why? Don't people like the shorter shift on the turbo? What about retro-fitting it?

at one point porsche circulated a memo to its service depts that the short shift was a cause of premature clutch failure. something about the synchros not having sufficient time to operate.

My dealer says the Short Shifter is no longer available as an option on new car orders. Not sure when this went into effect (or if the info is correct). I recently ordered a new 08 C4S and was not allowed to order the Short Shifter option.

I understood that the sport shifter went from a factory option to a dealer installed option. I had one installed in my new car as a dealer option this past year. Has this changed?

That is what my dealer said. He told me that I could order the parts for dealer or self install if I wanted. However, I could not get it as a factory option. I will probably order the part and install it myself.

Or save a few and install our B&M unit. You won't be disappointed.

I have a Sport-S and love it.. I have tried both.. and really prefer it.. I did find that when cold.. first gear is tough.. but second is like slippin through butter.. get it dealer installed if not an option for sure !

I have the SS and love it. I ordered my 07 997S in December of 2006 and took deliber in March of this year. At that time, you could only order it as a factory installed option.

Just have them install the OEM Techequiptment Short Shifter. It would be exactly the same as the one you were able to order in the past from Porsche

You all are missing the point:

Papa, can you adopt me?

SS is really nice, just right. Think about doing the alcantara shift **** and brake lever while you have it all apart. The actual install of the oem parts is very quick, 20-30 min for both. Opening up and removing the center console is the real time killer.

Actually, my son is paying for the 997S - he's too old to expect his parents to buy him toys.

Checking tonight, the Porsche website no longer shows the short shifter for the Turbo. It was great on the 997S and I'll speak to the dealer about ordering it from the parts department. My understanding was that the shifter on the 997S and Turbo are different.

Offer still stands. Then I'd have a dad AND a brother that have good taste in cars.
