what race seats fit 997S?
I posted this in the performance area however I thought I would ask in the 997 forum. I want to install race seats in a 997S. I believe Porsche and some others have fit the 997 with a seat from OMP and I would guess that the euro GT3 seats could be made to fit as well. Other than that, has anyone fit a Recaro SPG XL or Sparco Evo 2 seat in a 997?? thanks.

996 and 997 Euro GT3 on piece seats are a direct fit - slides and all. You will need your dealer to turn off the airbags it expects to find in the seat and the one piece shells don't have them.

well, the 997 euro GT3 RS Seats are no longer an option since Brandywine said they cost roughly $8000-$9000 EACH!!! (They are basically a C-GT seat with Alcantara center sections).....If anyone has had any luck mounting race seats in their 997 without removing the center console, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks!

Get the 996, not 997, GT3 seat. They're available through your dealer, through Carnewal, through Suncoast, through almost anyone. See ads in Panorama and Excellence. The seats come with rails and sliders, and they're an easy bolt-in installation. No need to remove the center console.

I know, the 996 GT3 seat would be the easiest way to go. I have to be honest and say that I have never really warmed up to that seat. Also, at track days, they are starting to become somewhat common place, I was hoping to go with something a bit unique.
I made Sparco Evo 2's fit in my 1956 356 "A" coupe with custom mounts with VERY little room too spare so anythings possible! Thanks for the response. BTW nkhalidi, I think we have the same car.....05 997S "launch" car with PCCB's and another $12K in various other options??

People go with the 6GT3 seat because it's easy to find, easy to install, looks OEM, and comes in a complete package. Pretty compelling set of reasons. I'm not crazy about the looks either, but I went with them for the aforementioned factors.
That said, there are options if you don't like them. You'll need a set of floor mounts and sliders.

I used to have VAC floor mounts, Sparco sliders, Sparco side mounts, and Sparco Evo seats in my old M3 track car. It worked fine, but it was a hassle trying to get everything mounted to work together in the car. YMMV.
My car is an '06 basalt/terracotta/black S with similar options to the launch cars.

How soon do you need your seats? Porsche's latest internal updates have an update sport seat coming out around November. They have holes for your harness, a folding seat back and the side airbag, too. Each is 15-17 lbs lighter than the stock sport seats.
No word on pricing, and they'll probably be hard to get at first as lots of people will want a pair. But if you're not in a rush...
