To buy or not to buy - 997
Hey - I'm a usual visitor to the 964 board.
I've been looking for a nice 997s. My budget is about $70k. Today I test drive a non "S" version with nice options and wanted your opinion and also had a couple of questions.
1) First - the car. It's silver, with black full leather interior. It comes with Nav, Power seats, PASM, multi function steering wheel, Lobster claw wheels, and has 9000 miles. I've got an option to buy from a dealer for $65k - do you guys think that is a good deal or should I hold out for an "S" in the $70k range ?
2) I noticed some light water leakage into the plastic container where the nav DVD module is - anyone else come across this ? The dealer ensures me it's covered under the factory warrenty. ?
3) The car is listed as having the BOSE sound system, but I noticed the speakers do not have the Bose sticker / label - is there anyway to check if the system really is the BOSE package ?
Thanks in advance all,
Andy

Gotta go with the 'S'... and I'd shop around for a private seller looking to move their 'S' quickly to get a great deal.
I thought I'd never come to this, once believing that buying new was so great, but with all the great prices I'm seeing for 997's with less than 10K miles I think that my days of buying new Porsches are over.
Good luck and happy driving!
ps - there are 58! Carrera S's through out the country under 10K miles priced between $65K and $75K listed on cars.com

I got my non S 997 last year for around $65k nicely optioned SO hold out for either an S at that price or go a little lower in the low $60k for a base 997 and then you can use the extra $$$ on an exhaust and OEM aerokit that the just sent me a flyer on!

Had the standard Carrera and it's a fine car, I now have the "S", it's awesome. Improved ride, handling and slight power bump. I suggest you spend a few more $ and get the S. You won't regret it. I had the same dilema last year and I should have listened to everyone on this board and got the S the first time. This is just my opinion. Good luck

If the car has the upgraded Bose system it will have the Bose badge on the door speakers. Seems like a nicely optioned car. I've never driven the 3.6 and they're probably great, but at that price it's definately close to S money and there are plenty of those on the market.

I bought a CPO 2005 S....If you are buying used, get the S, it will be a better value over time. If they say it's Bose yet you don't see any Bose emblems front or rear, RUN AWAY, they are scamming you, probably on more important stuff. There are plenty of cars out there, take your time (I DID NOT and overpaid, so speak from experience)....

When you add up what it would cost to upgrade the engine, brakes, steering wheel, wheels, suspension, headlights, exhaust, etc. the S is a bargain. However, my C4 was great and I still like the look of the Carrera III wheel the best. Having any 911 is joy. Frankly after owning a Turbo I can't really tell the difference between my C4 and C4S other than the noise. That damn Turbo is insane, makes everything else seem slow.

APW964,
Sent you a Private Message (PM) with information about the possible sale of my 2006 Carrera S, yet the PM didn't t register on my "Sent Messages" box. If you didn't get it and are interested on what I had to say, please get back to me.
