My new car!
I ordered it on 12/17 last year and took delivery exactly 4 weeks ago on (4/21). She is a dream. I've waited this long to post because 1) I can't find my digital camera and 2) I've been VERY busy at work. So after nearly a month, I decided to just post a couple of low-res pics from my cell phone taken on the day I drove her home.
Specs:
997C2, Arctic silver, black interior, 19" Carrera Classics, Sport Seats, Xenons and, of course, $140 mats.
I love this car and everything about it. I picked it up with 8.6 miles on the odometer and have logged 800 miles since (first 500 in the first week, only 300 in the past 3 weeks due to work load).
I love the way she takes corners, love the way she accelerates in 2nd and 3rd at a little over 4k RPMs, but unfortunately, I have to let off the pedal at around 4.5-5k due to break in (when I do go to 5k it's only in short bursts, maybe 2 or 3 seconds). Top speed I've hit so far is 115mph and it was absolutely smooth. I was in 6th gear at something like 4.5-5k rpms, so I let off due to revs. It's amazing how fast you can get to 100mph from 30-40mph.
Gas mileage is harsh, I'm averaging 16.2miles/gallon. The key is very nice, but unfortunately it's easy to push one of the buttons accidentally when it's in your pocket. I've done that a couple of times. I wish there was a on/off slide switch or something. Sometimes it doesn't want to go into 1st gear from a standstill (I've read others here with similar complaints). I just shift to 2nd first then back into 1st whenever that happens, so no biggie, but I can't say I like it when that happens.
The tires are at 39psi front/42psi rear. This is they way then came from the dealership (nitrogen filled). I think I'm going to adjust this soon as I think I may be getting a little less traction than I'd like around some corners. I'm still taking it very easy, so no really fast corners yet, but even the ones I've taken sometimes seem to slide the car a little more than I'd expect. I think the initial psi's seem to be set up for full load.
You rennlisters are a bunch of helpful people and this site, in general, is a great resource for P-car info.
I'm glad to have joined the club!

That's a sweet ride! All the best with it. I know you're really going to dig it. You MPG will get better. I average 21-24 MPG with ~11K on the motor. My car really seemed to come alive ~ 5K.... also was much easier to get into 1st after that...be patient with the breakin - it will all come together - promise! have fun!!!

Congrats Gerald. Very nice ride. fwiw, I'm now 14 months into 997 ownership, and the grin is still on my face every time I drive it, and I drive it all the time.

Fantastic report. So glad to see another "minimalist" with respect to options. These cars even stripped are monsters, as I've been discovering at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen. I have the same issues with the key and 1st gear - on a 997S. I also have the "slow clock" issue that I'll have to get my dealer to correct. I average about 18.5 in the city and just got 24.8 MPG on the way to and back from Watkins Glen (at significant, but reasonable speeds). You may just have to wait for the break-in to be completed.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Congrats dude. Dont work too hard. I am taking this upcoming Friday off to spend some quality time with my car. Regarding the key sensitive, someone posted a method to reduce its sensitivity so do a search and you should find a solution. Have fun and enjoy it in good health.

Congratulations on your new baby. I do aggree with you that your air pressurres maybe too high. I ride with 40 in the rear and 34 in the front. Gives a great soft ride. And remember, push those rpm's slightly during break-in. It won't hurt the engine and if anything it will help seal those rings. Again enjoy and good luck.

The car looks so happy and unstressed I am sure it must have been sold and delivered by Tom McAfee at Steven's Creek Porsche, most likely the best, most helpful Porsche salesperson out there.
