Default Does PSE improve airflow?

I'm assuming that the throatier sound mode of the PSE is executed by temporarily removing restrictions in the airflow - true? Since the X51 powerkit appears to use the PSE, it makes sense that the exhaust, when in the louder mode, acts somewhat the same as an AWE/Fabspeed catback. Otherwise the breathing improvements in the powerkit (both intake and internal) would be compromised.

The reason I ask, is that the plenum discussed in another thread seems interesting and plausible vs. the other intake mods. But...if the exhaust cannot flow the additional air, it would be for naught (and my soon to be delivered car has the PSE).

I don't believe it does. The X51 has a different header design as well as the PSE.

... and greater airflow intake mani, and different valves, and heads, and a larger airbox and filters, and a "sit down, you're not going to believe this" price tag.

On the upside, PSE sounds great and has an ON/OFF switch; on the downside, PSE weighs a lot for a set of cans.

So if the PSE didn't flow more air, how would the headers be effective? Air flow tends to fall victim to the "weakest link in the chain" - and - if the PSE didn't flow more air how would it handle the extra flow of all of the other X51 mods? Unless the stock exhaust sysem is not a bottleneck in the first place.

I do not know. All I know is that it is documented that PSE adds no performance improvements and if it was flowing more air I think there would be a performance improvement.

I don't know if the PSE increase the airflow. But interestingly I find that...

if we turn off the PSE, put our hands behind the exhaust pipes, we can feel that only two of the four exhaust pipes have air coming out.

If we turn on the PSE, then all four pipes have air coming out.

With best regards,

Intuitively there should be a power increase but it may be too small for Porsche to make any claims.

PSE DOES increase air flow slightly. PSE mod without valve increases air flow more.

PSE does not improve air flow much if at all but reduces sound absorption material and chamber channeling of flow to provide a louder exhaust note. PSE also adds weight to the rear over the already heavy stock mufflers. I took of well over 20lbs of weight to the rear of my car with Fabspeed mufflers. Seems like AWE and Fabspeed are the best alternative mufflers for the Carrera.
