Default Burning Smell

I've got an o7 C2S with about 3300 miles, in the last couple of hundred miles i've noticed a burning smell once I get out of the car. I'm not sure if it's burning oil or what. Has anyone else experienced this?

Itmight be either >Sulfur< or >Cosmoline< .

To deal with the first possibility, change the type of gas (petrol) to another brand. The cosmoline smell should go away over time.

Get used to it. There's very hot exhaust system very compact next to engine with hoses, oil, insulation, cosmoline etc.; rear-engined car (compacted exhaust system) will stink up the whole garage. I had an exhaust fan installed in the garage for this car.

Hmmmm. I find it odd when there is no smell. Burn that biatch. Does it happen after every trip? Do you drive aggressively especially last couple of minutes before you get home?

I thought it was oil (Mobil water), but a friend said he thought it was rubber (tires) or brakes.....I smell it when I get in my garage....

I have it too, and what bothers me about it is that I swear it's clutch.

My 996 did not do that.

Same here - 05 C2s and I notice the smell often (but not every trip); definitely brakes or clutch (or both) .

I think it's part of the charm driving 997. Its not sterile. It eats oil, drives fast and gets stinky. It might be by design.

I have it when, I get back from a spirited drive. I just thought it was where some rubber from rear tires got sprayed onto the exhaust...

Sounds like cosmoline, the smell will eventually dissipate around 3-5 thousand miles on the clock.

I haven't had that smell in some time now. Did for a long time. I'm approaching 11,000 miles. Will turn that this coming weekend. It's just settling in and burning things off.

Exactly, i dont care if the car smells, but everytime i pull into the garage i think its my clutch that smells. Does cosmoline somewhat smell like a burning clutch?

My car has smelled like this evertime since I brought it home, have bout 900 miles on the clock right now.

Up to 73,000 miles when I sold my 993, it had a vary similar type of smell as my 997 at 400 miles does now. I assume it is characteristic of the 911 design.
