Default MP3 Freezes up the PCM?

Today I popped in a burned CD with MP3s on it, and immediately the stereo and entire PCM froze up, started getting confused, went on & off, louder & softer, and ultimately refused to respond. It won't even eject the CD. Anyone had this experience before, and is there anything to be done other than a trip to the dealer (which wouldn't be so bad as I'd like a loaner Cayenne this week anyway).

Strange, are you sure you burnt the CD correctly? What type of files? Variable bit-rate mp3's play funny, they sound better through Winamp on the PC.

Also I wouldn't use Windows media manager to burn the CD.

Check out ImageBurn:
http://www.imgburn.com

It's a free open source CD and DVD burner, I've burnt many a CD and DVD with it and very few coasters

It was burned normally, and correctly I think. It works fine on the Audi and Lexus. Although, now that you mention it...I think I did use Windows Media manager. Maybe that's it.

Well I've burnt mp3 data CD's with media manager OK too its just a p.i.t.a. in my opinion, overly complicated.

If they play fine in your other cars, boombox or something I'd suspect your PCM is having issues.

What year/month is your car? I know that the mp3 feature was not added until April or May 2005 builds.

I burned an mp3 cd using iTunes. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the song playing did not match the title of the song on the screen. I ejected the cd, turned off the stereo, and then reinserted the cd, and it's been fine.

I had the same issue with MP3 CD's that I had burned last year. Randomly the player would just lock and not allow me to eject the CD, nor would it even recognize I had an MP3 CD in it...... Then it would randomly permit me to eject it... and everything was just "hunky dory"....
I also had some electrical glitches that required switching out some electrical control "modules". I haven't had the issue since, or so far this season....... It was a PITA when it happened though.

1Gunner. I didn't think 2005's had the ability to read an MP3 or WMA format.
I thought it was a change for 2006?

They sure do

That's the actual tune I had cued up and playing as I drove off the dealers lot for the first time in my BRAND NEW 997....

I still relive that emotion every time "Beautiful Day" plays in my car!! Very cool!!

My C2S was first registered May 05 - so built earlier than that; After reading this thread I went and checked my PCM and guess what - It plays MP3/WMA no problem (nothing in the manual about that!!) - I'm delighted, thanks.

mountainmaniac: try pulling the fuse to the radio (in the footwell) to reset it and the amp.... should reset it, save you a trip to the dealer.
