Thumbs up

i just changed out my wheels. I tried several different styles and sizes of wheels and tires. after driving on all of them i opted for a set of 19RH AL's. 8 in the front and 11 in the rears with 235/35 and 305/30 PS2's. the sidewall of the tires and the offset of the wheels is almost perfect in the wells as far as looks and the ride is smooth and tight, basically perfect. i am also running 6mm spacers in the rear. if money is not a real problem, i would recommend a new set of wheels to get everything just right.

next...the drop.

I noticed a difference in how it brought the wheel out a bit further and felt it was a subtle but nice addition for $292. I agree with Coochas that the weight of these things is a moot point....they are very light, a few ounces at most including the screws. If I were keeping the stock wheels, I'd definitely leave'em on. Plus, I can't imagine 5mm spacers having a negative effect on performance or stressing the any suspension parts. If someone went overboard on the size of the spacer obviously it could impact things but on the OEM 5mm ones...nah.

OK Dave

Time for a randomized prospective double blinded study ( I think I got all of those buzzwords in there).

Understood - I think my point was just that weight adds up and if it's for looks and the person asking doesn't realize there's a performance negative...

Get a wheel with the proper offset and you won't need spacers.

OEM wheels have the proper offsets yet Porsche still offers 5mm spacers as an option. Coochas web site has some good before/after pictures of the 5mm spacers - it takes a pretty good eye to tell the difference. This is about 5mm __

I was facetiously trying to illustrate how well the aftermarket BBS wheels fill out the wheel wells without the need for spacers.

Spacers with after market wheels are a whole different ball game, as the offsets of the wheels change anyway. So, for example if say the rears in a narrow body have a 67 offset isnt it I believe? and you buy a wheel with a 60mm offset, then naturally they will sit 7mm further out from the axle.
The basis to start this is the factory setup. If you want the wheels 5mm out, then the aftermarket wheels should have an offset that is 5 less than 67. etc etc.

Wow...okay thanks all of you. Next dumb question so to speak....where do I look for aftermarket wheels for my 997 coupe? Also next question....how do I lower the car? Which is the best choices of springs I take it to do that which won't compromise my ride quality? Or get my body work damaged by the ever present pot holes here in the Northeast? Who has done what? What has worked? i see a lot of Champion, Kinesis, and BBS wheels on the forum...where do you guys go online? Local shops? Probably in Cali its alot easier to do I suspect.

Anyway thanks and ...new can of worms opened I am sure!

Wheel Enhancement or Tire Rack.

I have a set of Kinesis F110s (19") and a set of BBS LMs (18" for the track) with H&R lowering springs.

The springs don't hurt ride quality really and it makes the car look a LOT better IMO. 18s go on tomorrow for the first time.

www.wheelenhancement.com no one better when it comes to porsche wheels.

and by the way, while they don't think much of the spacer idea they sell the 5mm kit.

regards
