Daily Driver or Weekend Toy

I also drive into NYC to the World Financial Center during the week - close to 50 miles each way per day. On really nice days, I'll drive the 997 into the City, but for the most part, it's a weekend car. I do not believe a 997 would be a good daily driver into NYC. Aside from the horrible roads, sitting in heavy traffic with a manual is no fun. I have an '07 BMW 330xi as a daily driver. However, I made the mistake of getting the sport package, which has a much stiffer suspension, and with its run flat tires, it is horrible to drive on NYC streets. I'm getting rid of it for that reason. I don't know if BMW puts run flats on the 5 series, and if it does, I would advise against getting the sport package.

I daily drive a 996 almost every day from summit NJ, to Jersey city (take the ferry in from there). I find it a great daily driver... love driving it. Would totally make the 997 your daily driver (but put 18" wheels on it)
The roads suck in jersey city, but I-78 and njtpk is ok.

My 997 is my fair weather daily driver. When I'm not driving the 911 I bounce back between my A4 Avant and my Expedition. I'm a Porsche fan through and through and I tried the Cayenne...I really did. Honestly, I thought it was total crap.

My dealer let me drive a Cayenne S for a week, racking up ~400 miles, while my car was in for some electronic glitch issues.I wanted to be impressed, but I just wasn't.....
That said, my 997 is not a DD, but driven whenever I want to smile! So far I have ~12k miles of !!

I like the Cayenne. I had a Titanium edition as a loaner, and I liked it. I also got to drive it at the Porsche Driving Experience, where we took it off road. We were able to drive this thing on some amazing terrain. The Porsche instructors then took us on the track with a Cayenne Turbo, and again, the car handled the track well at very high speeds.

I think the mini may be too stiff for NYC... I refer to the minis that we have in Europe, perhaps the US version has a softer setting. However, the 17in wheels on the cooper S make it quite harsh.
I would consider an MB as someone said earlier... get one of those funky van types for the family and hauling stuff... Like a 350 R class with 2+2+2 seats in a 4Matic for the snow. Looks are subjective and its a car that needs getting used to, but heck its like an S class in size!!! in AMG perhaps??? Or a B class as a smaller alternative...

Thinking about getting rid of it (i am bored and also tired of paying for repairs). Here is my dilemna: Do i sell the Boxster and make the 997 my daily driver (i commute about 70 miles r/t each day) or do I buy another car for my daily commute (thinking about an x5 or 5 series sport wagon. Just cant bring myself to drive the 997 into manhattan every day and beat it to crap.
So here is the question -- how may of you use your 997 for a DD and how many use it just for fun on the w/e.

What type of issues (repairs) are you experiencing with your 02 Boxster?

328i wagon, good gas mileage, fun to drive, sport pkg, plus free maintenance!
I like the RWD model with Sport suspension, we've just bought our second one, if you have to have AWD then you may want to compare to X3.
Much prefer inline 6 to Audi V6, when you throw in the maintenance it's no contest IMHO.

my commute is about 100 miles r/t-- often nyc. my p-car is a DD but i'm beginning to mix it up with the wagon to avoid putting too many miles on the 911. why add to the crazy depreciation? but with my S and 19" wheels, i do admit driving in nyc can be a hassle, but depends on your particular route. for instance, 52nd street off the west side hwy is 100x worse than 50th in terms of potholes, etc.
