2005 C2S Launch Edition -- New Owner
The beast: Just picked up a 2005 C2S Launch Edition (black, black full leather, pccb's, pasm, sports chrono, bose, xenons, heated seats, auto dimming mirror, PS2's, stealth V1 and Lidatek hardwire install). 10,400 miles.
P-car background: my story's a bit unusual or, perhaps, too appropriate. after a long line of bmw's, i bought a 2000 996 C2 (CPO, 24k miles) this past October 2006 essentially on a whim, was supposed to be my 'second' car. Much to my surprise, the car quickly became my daily driver and in a little over 2 months, put 6k miles on the car. needless to say, i was solidly hooked on porsches and sold my bmw DD. Then, since i drive quite a bit, i realized i wanted a bit more modern car for my daily driver with all the creature comforts (nav, better stereo, etc), so, alas, my dealer found me a 2005 C2S.
C2S impressions: i always thought my 996 was strangely mechanical in feel, from its its clunky shifter (quickly put in ssk which vastly improved action) to how the car revs and pulls. loved it-- unlike any other car i've driven. however, i always thought the interior was a bit cheap, and being a 2000, felt kinda dated. the 997 is simply modern smooth-- more bmw/honda-like in its interface, but not really dulling the amazing feedback. i'm surprised at how much the car prefers to be in the upper rpm's, more so than my 996 which likes to pull from almost anywhere in the rev range. sports mode is cool. i know others here don't like the unpredictable throttle response and harsh ride, but i think it adds some fun drama to an otherwise predictable ride-- kinda reminiscent of an old-school saab turbo with its crazy turbo lag. otherwise, the ride, even with the 19's, is amazingly smooth and compliant-- moreso than the 996. no novel thoughts, here, just confirming it's a pretty amazing car.
P.S. still trying to sell the 996 and already ordered the clear side markers.

Oh yeah - impressions of the 3.6L 996 vs the 3.8L 997? I know the 3.8 is much more "torquey" - what are your impressions of the 3.8's "desire to rev" vs the 3.6?
I still think you should keep them both. ;-)

thanks guys! already lost count on how many grocery runs today for the wife.
of course, this is my limited observation so far, but it appears the 3.8 doesn't like to be below 3k rpms, but once it hits 3200, whoa baby, it loves to pull so hard yet so smooth. the power and the urge up there is addicting. truly a great engine that loves to rev-- more appropriate for the track. the 3.4 996, on the other hand, doesn't mind duties below 3k rpm and pulls quite nicely but tends to lose out on top. again, just my initial impressions-- while you have to wring out the 3.8 to get max benefit, and the 3.4 dutifully grunts from below, it's the 3.8 you can ultimately have more fun with it. but as a daily driver, dare i say, perhaps the 3.6 997 is better all around?
yea, i was seriously thinking about keeping the 996 (perhaps a his and hers or a dedicated track car), but we can't do 3 cars. believe, i've thought long and hard to try to justify it.....

jrgordon, i thought someone would mention the gravel! the pics were taken at a property where my wife takes her riding lessons. on the border of CT/NY-- very beautiful horse country. as you can see, i got off the gravel as fast as i could! after driving 1/2 mph-- wonder why people hate p-car drivers....
toecutter, not ebay. danbury porsche, which by the way is a great dealer. strongly recommend malachy tracey there.
nkhalidi, looks like ours are cousins! if i remember correctly, you have a terracotta interior that's beautiful.
and for y'all suggesting to keep the 996, please, for the sake of humanity, i'm conflicted enough already!
