Default Oil Usage Poll

I'm curious as to our engine oil usage. In short,--how much are these engines consuming?

Since I believe it's largely a function of the driver,--the style of driving they do, coupled with distances traveled over time, there is considerable variability.

What I'd like you all to do is to normalize your numbers over 10,000 miles. If you've only traveled 5000 miles in your car so far note your usage and double it. If you have traveled 15,000 miles, multiply it by .67, and so on.

If you have changed your oil during the period of ownership already, note your first usage and vote again for all subsequent fills, all normalized to 10,000 miles. I'm interested in QUARTS and not litres, so for our Euro friends, please adjust accordingly (as well as for the kilometers). We all should know the conversion factors by now.

Thanks.

I bought an 05 C2S with 19,770 miles on it, have added total of 1 qt. in 2,550 miles (Mobil 1 0-40). I would say combo of fwy and *****-out, so average spirited?

No short trips. Only used on weekends. Used about 1 qt in most recent 3000 miles...GR

So how do you break down M-F commuting and occasional weekend spirited driving?

Tag along question: How many people trust the system (in the absence of a dip stick) to deliver the correct information?

I don't mind the electro measure especially for quick checks when I don't want to get the hands dirty but I would also appreciate having the stick as well. Most newer MB's also had/have the electro measure, but for their new engines, they brought back the stick! Porsche, if you're listening, how about bringing back the stick with the new direct injection engines? Please...

Just came back from a track event at Thunderhill today. I was expecting to see the oil level drop by one bar, but no.

In my case the most oil that I burnt was during the break in period.

for me,I burned about 3/4 of a quart first 3000 ,4000 or so , then added about a 1/2 quart at 9500. total of 1 1/4 quarts. I don't track but, drive it hard most of the time. ---mike
