Default 0-60 in 3.9?

I came across a Road & Track from about a year ago and the performance table in the back showed their road test of the C2S yielded a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. Porsche claims 4.6 in their literature. While Porsche has traditionally been a little conservative in their specs, 3.9 just seems a bit optimistic. What do you guys think?

I recall that write up and didn't they seem surprise with that results? I thought they took the car to a dyno. To see if the HP was underrated. Check this site out. The average 0-60 is around 4.3 on a 997S. http://www.weissach.net/996-997_RoadTestSummary.html

With the right driver and right conditions, I can see it happening.

Red face

R&T also has a GT3 (380hp version) listed in the same summary running 0-60 4.2...I think Porsche may have supplied "a hot" C2S especially since it recently made its debut at the time of the test.

Does anyone actually concern themselves with such numbers? These are Porsches, not Corvettes.

They're used as benchmarks and or reference points...

Definitely believable..since R&T also ran a 4.1 with a C4S, a car some 200lbs heavier than a standard S. Not to menion C&D also ran a 4.1, what is staggering is the 12.3 @114mph that R&T ran. In that article they also mentioned the fact the car they ran this time was properly run in vs. the almost new car they previously tested. The car was taken to a dyno and found it made it's estimated hp.

+1. While I realize this is not the case for many but this whole 3.8, 4.1 and 4.6 business is completely irrelevant to me. Its all about how it makes you feel while climbing there and beyond not how fast.

Sad though it may be, pretty much everyone does. In the U.S. at least, 0-60 performance is the yardstick by which we measure our egos.

I've never seen another stock 997S tested by a major magazine with a 3.9 0-60 and the C4S's trap was 110.2 vs the 114.8 of the C2S (4.6 mph in trap is pretty significant indeed); this trap speed is also higher than the 380 hp GT3 (113.8). Something still smells a little fishy to me, maybe they had a different diffy/gears???

I guess it must matter to a lot of people. Today, coming back to work from lunch I had a couple of motorcycles in the next lane over (45 mph speed) and when the light changed to green, I moderately pushed her up to 45 and the kid with the pocket rocket decided he needed to push it way up AND pull a wheelie. Age. Some people might survive.

I remember this article. I remember the driver was dumping the clutch at like 5k haha. But what might be more impressive than those 0 - 60 numbers is that skid pad 1.03g for the carrera s WOW thats sick.

I can deff beleive this. I recently took mt car out to the 1/4 mile track.. It was my first time drag racing my car(7k miles on it) I ran a 12.77 @ 111 with a 2.1 60 foot while granny shifting 2nd. I have the GIAC chip maybe that help a little but still. 1.8 60 foot is verry very possible with a stock 997S. I jsut couldnt stop from wheel hoping becuase i install the bypass pipes and they took of around 60 lbs fro mthe back and i have 7500 hard drivin miles on my original PS2's.. with a 1.7 60 and great driving at a great driving that is very well into the low 12's and it is very possible... I wouldnt be suprised if someone hit 11.9 with a 997S with jsut bolt ons and DR's.
