Default Three brothers -- Front, mid, rear engine.

Greetings,

Here are my three P-cars -- Front engine (951), Mid engine (986S), and rear engine (997S).

I wonder if Porsche is the only car company that makes all three engine layout (front/mid/rear) sports cars...?

All three from the same family, but with their own characters.

With best regards,
- Alex.

I see you aligned them in the right pecking order.

Interesting... which one do you prefer to drive?
Good question. To be really honest, as owning and driving all three, this is just for my own experience and how I feel...

The Boxster S... it is really hard to beat the wonderful balance of the Boxster S layout. I don't know how to explain it in technical term, but this is what I feel... When driving all three, the Boxster S is really like an extension of my mind and body. When my eyes see the line, the car follows. When I want to hit that apex, the car bingos. When I made a mistake, the car corrects. It is like a trusty pony that will never harm me.

The 944 Turbo (951) is also very balance, but with a higher moment of inertia (engine in front, trans way back). I can feel that few mili-seconds of delay (compares to my Boxster S) to turn-in. And, if I make a mistake in turns, it takes more efforts and skills to count-correct it (like swinging a dumbell back and fore). Its turbo kicks-in is so much fun on straight, but kind of tricky during turns. It is like a horse on PMS, one moment it is so sweet and another moment it goes nutz. I do feel more tired after a few laps on the 951, while in the Boxster S I was more relax.

The 997S... I haven't have a chance to track it yet, but on roads I can already feel the weight hanging on the back. It is like swinging a hammer, if I know how to swing the heavy end I can nail something very good, but if i am not careful the hammer might miss and hit my own finger. However, it is that taming the wild horse factor that attracts me. After driving my Boxster well for years, I really like the challenge to learn driving the 997S well. I still like my pony Boxster S, but my mind is all on the wild horse 997S now.

Please don't get me wrong, I like all Porsche's and they are all wonderful with their own characters. If I can, I would like to have one of every model made (I am also a 997GT3 waiter, I guess it will be another experience)

Just my thoughts, and with best regards,
- Alex.
