Default Direct Petrol Inject ?

I got the new Panorama yesterday and there was an article on the new Cayenne.
The motors now have direct petrol inject systems and they are quoting increases in power, torque and fuel economy of 10-20%. It also allows an increase in compression ratio.
There is a small note saying this may make it into the sports cars... i.e. 911.
Anyone heard if this is being planned for the 2008 models ?

Supposedly sometime in 2008 for the '09 model but no one knows for certain when only that it will happen.

There have been threads on this here at RL for a few months. Best guess is late 2008 as a 2009 model (as an article in R&T and other places) say the Porsche insiders are hinting at.

It would be a very good thing if the new direct injection system increases torque by 10%-20% as IMHO these cars could really benefit from it...

Then again, what engine wouldn't benefit from 10% more HP, 10% more TQ, and 10% more fuel efficiency There was a great presentation by a Porsche engineer at Tech Tactics earlier this month - talked all about the direct injection technology. Certainly is going to be great for the 911 line when they develop it. Sadly, the car will probably go further on "edgy" design (note the spy shots on front and rear bumpers, LED lights, etc.). It would be nice to have the current 997 design with a direct injection engine.

The 997 could use the torque more than the hp and extra mpg or two, but I'd glady take all three. I even like the new design changes and think in the flesh it will look great
