Default Stolen headlights on Ebay: Anything we can do??

Another pair of 997 headlights for sale. I suspect these are stolen.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...QQcmdZViewItem

This is becoming a regular thing on ebay. Is there anything that can be done to bust the guys that are doing this? Engraving our headlights? Any ideas?

They gotta be "hot". Why would anyone have a new set? Can't prove it though.

hmmm no feedback
What say we offer him up some things where we give him a cheque for a little more than the value?

Did anyone ask "what's the story on these, why are you selling new Xenons out of your car - are they hot?..." I have read about some people literally changing Xenons out for Halogen in the 911 models in the hopes they don't get ripped off for the 5th time (some people have been hit so many times). Unfortunately, the crooks don't check to see if they are Xenon or Halogen and rip them all out.

Zero seller feedback. Very suspicious.

I just sent him a question.

How did you come upon these headlights?

Are they from a car of yours? Can you vouch for the origin of the headlights and do they work properly?

Please advise, as I am interested.
I will advise what this guy says if I receive a reply....and no, I am not at all interested.

BTW: Both Ebay and Paypal don't give a ship. I bought a kiteboard last Summer from a woman in HI. Two months later was bragging - with picture - in a kitesurf forum what a great, unknown board this was. The shaper called me from HI and said it was stolen from his truck earlier that year. I made him file a police report before I sent it back ..and then went to Ebay & Paypal with the report, etc. Their response was similar to the Generals at Walter Reed Hospital regarding treatment of injured Vets.

Some parts dealer will buy those lamps to rinse the smell off them.

On the other hand, there have been a handful of 'suspicious' cars for sale that Rennlist members (including myself) have pointed out that were pulled by EBay after filing reports to them.
My guess is that they have a certain dollar amount on which they'll pull the trigger for fraud.

I just sent him a msg also. Unless they are a legit salvage dealer (with Zero ebay history?) with a rear-ended/totalled 997 piecing out, what possible reason other than they are hot? Even a racing fanatic converting a street 997 would keep the original parts i would think. Anyone know if there are telltale screwdriver marks around the outer lens perimeter or anything when they are pried out?

I sent him a message too. Maybe he'll start feeling the heat. He's local to me, if I have the time I'll see if I can stop by and check them out

It's a shame PCNA doesn't realize how easy it is to clip these lights, and begin stamping VIN or identifying numbers on the units.

Why not put a couple spots of epoxy at some contact points?

Most thieves/burglars/muggers/rapists/other scum give up at the least amount of resistance.

Bad idea...if he's going to take them, let him...I'd say chances are close to zero that your car would be left unscathed at the point of realization that they are not easy to remove, either by more force or vandalism.

Too bad they are not on the east coast. I have aquaintances that I would be able to contact and they could make them an offer they couldn't refuse

I received an answer back regarding these headlights as quoted. "No these lights are not "left overs" And absolutely you would be able to pick them up in person. I work in a body shop and the car left without the headlights, they were removed because they needed to be removed at the time. Not stolen. Call (818)469-1811 for any other questions".
See what he responds to the rest of your inquiries.
