Default I saw my first 997 GT3 today...

...And it immediately evoked the "Must have it now" irrational response in my brain. It's truly the perfect car aesthetically and I can only imagine how fantastic it must be to drive.

Okay, somebody remind me that the 997S is a fine piece of machinery and that losing money in expensive depreciating assets is a bad thing.

Please? Guys?

For a track only car, sure... But if you are driving it on the street other than to and from the track, no thanks. For around here, it's too low (997S scrapes) and showy.

For the money/performance and functionality the 997S is hands down the best deal on the market. ....grass isn't always greener my friend!

Just go rip on your car and that'll erase any BS floating around in your head.

Sorry man, the grass is greener. I gave in and bought one. Best over all appearance of any Porsche in my book.

Looks are subjective, IMHO the GT3 doesn't look right on the street but fine for the track. The engine and exhaust note are another matter. Sure wish they made the GT3 engine a stand alone option.

As always, it boils down to personal preference. Don't get me wrong, if I had the means and opportunity, the GT3 would be mine. But with all the stuff you get and for the money, the C2S is a fantastic car.

But for a daily- I'd much prefer the C2S. I adore the GT3, and it was a blast to drive; but it might wear on me on a daily basis.

However, my 997 GT3 sighting created a hypnotic effect that almost caused me to drive into a line of parked cars.

If you only use your Porsche as a weekend toy like I do then you'd see it my way. I would pick a GT3 any day over a 997 or 997S....or a turbo for that matter.

I just like the look. But for those who use their cars as DD's then I suppose the less flashy standard 997s are probably better suited for the street. I don't want my DD to be flashy, just something that I can throw my stuff in and go, not worry about where I park it etc.

I always thought people who drive cars like Vipers or Lambos as DD's seem a little over the top but I wear a suit to work every day in a conservative environment.

When it comes right down to it, it depends on the individual.

I have a deposit in on a 997 GT3.

I do think I'm going to keep my S and pick up a 996 GT3 or some other dedicated track car rather than go for the 997 GT3. I'll get a used 997 GT3 or GT3 RS in the future. Depreciation is bad.

The GT3 is an awesome machine, no doubt. But its lacking the rear seats, which a lot of people here on the forum use for their kids (me included) and the giant wing attracts to much attention for it to be a good everyday car. I'm not saying it can't be, I'd just be careful where I park it. The 997 can be left just about anywhere.

If this can make you feel better, checkout the 5/07 issue of Excellence. Its cover story is "911 F77 -- The GT3 Alternative?"

It is a good read for 997S owners who wants to add a litte more spice on their car. The sidebar is also a good read, it confirmed better laptime with the F77 upgrades.

BTW -- anyone in the fourm have tried the F77 upgrades? Thoughts?

With best regards,

Me, too. Standard C2 bodywork, GT3 interior (alcantara sport seats/etc, no PCM), GT3 drivetrain, and the ROW -20mm sport suspension with mechanical LSD (no PASM) would be my ideal 997.

LOL You crack me up. I fully understand and have irrational thoughts everytime I think Porsche, but it's all good.

I keep reading reviews and looking at pictures and thinking "Well, if I move this here, and cut out that there, I could easily afford one."

The 997 GT3 is consuming me.

Throw all rational thinking out the window and get one.
