They are actually quite great at the track, its a fun car to own. You can tinker with it and not stress about warranty issues because if you break something its dirt cheap to fix. For about 4k in mods you have a car that can hang with pretty much everything short of a 997TT or Z06 and for 3-4k more you can have a supercar like 500-600hp daily driver - on pump gas. Hard to live with as your only car, but if your a car guy its definately worth a few hrs seat time if you can.

Tuned in the Evo world is ECU flashed / dyno tuned etc. Your looking at 380hp with a tune and full exhaust (stock intake, filter) on an Evo 8 from one of the good places. Thats enough HP to make quick work of a 997S from my experience.

I have a V400 vishnu tuned IX MR and she puts down 330 to the wheels on a dynojet with just a tune and full exhaust. Even from a roll or move shes fast (unlike stock ones that are pigs from a roll). Vbox's 4 flat 0-60 and low 12's when launched like you hate it.
My friend's EVO is putting down about 290whp on dynojet. He didn't want to try launching from 0-60 as he's afraid of damaging his clutch.

I will be racing with an E60 M5 this weekend and i will bring a vid cam with me to the race. Keep you guys posted!

290 sounds about right for mild bolt ons and a generic flash perhaps but w/ out a tune. Tell him he needs to head on over to Vishnu in Danville ASAP! Night and day difference.

RonCT, weighed my 305/25-20 tire today, came in at 23.5lbs. I've read the stock 19" wheel weighs in at 27.8lbs. With that in mind I weighed my stock wheel/tire 295/30-19 and it came in at 56.8lbs, the front came in at 45.9lbs. That means the tire must weigh about 29lbs based on these numbers! Seems the lower sidewall 20's are about 5lbs lighter even though they are even wider!

Should go without saying, this would help offset the weight difference of the larger wheel.

My old Evo would crush my 997S... no question. Turboback, intake, reflash = 320 whp/330 wtq. My 997S put down 310 whp/265 wtq. And the Evo is lighter...

Also, if a modded Evo has cams (272s or 280s), it will hang all day long on the top end. What lets it down in the end (literally) is the aero effect over 140mph. I will get another Evo in the near future - great car, cheap/reliable to mod, still something of a sleeper to most folks.

Not sure about that. According to www.edmunds.com, the Evo is 3285 lbs and the 997S is 3252.

So - for me I guess I could drop 10-15 lbs and it would be liking increasing the horsepower...

Damn - another reason to loose some weight...
