I guess the Business Week magazine sounds like complete BS from the feedback so far.

I should send this link to the editors.

I get Hertz rent a cars, and it is usu a Taurus.Yuk! One spends over 100k on a car, its in for warranty work, and they punish you for bringing it in! I wonder what car I will get when I do a brake job!

Downtown L.A. used to just give me an Enterprise POS. But last year they opened a new full fledged modern Porsche facility (previously I think they were a second tier, small, old showroom). They did raise their service prices (but still better than many). Now I get Cayennes (base), but last time got a Cayenne S, almost new and loaded.

It must be optional dealer by dealer. But even though I know I am probably paying for it, its nice to get a Porsche loaner on site without having the hassle of Enterprise and their tired, POS American rental cars.

At Brandywine in PA, I got a Cayenne loaner for the day while my car was being lowered. At Porsche of Tyson's in Northern VA, you can get a Cayenne if you make the arrangements ahead of time, otherwise it's a no-cost Enterprise rental. Generally I get a POS - it's a little annoying to drop off a $100K car and drive off in a $15K car. Every routine service I need will be the pre-arranged variety to avoid the ignominy of driving around in a Corolla/Cobalt/etc.

You're comparing a $100,000 Porsche Luxury car to a rental, base of the base model chevrolet cobalt. You're a fool.

That's a little harsh. I could compare a Cobalt to the new Civic ($15K and $15K) and have the same comments. American cars are generally rubbish... I don't blame the car companies as much as the ridiculous pensions they are paying out.

Same here, or a driver, home and back!
I did have a new Rav-4 free rental, arranged by my Lexus dealer when they were out of loaners. They took me to the rental agency to pick up, and I dropped it off at dealer when I picked up my car.

Paul Miller has 5 Cayennes. You can reserve one with advanced notice. Otherwise you'll get something else.

Yes, it is up to each dealer's discretion to set up the loaner plan. Technically, if you purchase the P-car at one dealer and take it in for service at another, the dealership that is servicing the car would not necessarily have to provide a loaner.

The dealership that I bought my car at rented me a car the one time I took it there for service. I believe that they said they had loaner cars but they were all loaned out.

The closer dealership won't give me a loaner car because I didn't buy the car from them. The exception was they gave me a loaner car the time that I took my car in to repair damage that they caused (they stuck a screwdriver through an interior piece when they were taking the door panel off to fix the window). The loaner they gave me that day was an Audi station wagon called something like an all road. It was brand new and had a $50k sticker on the window. I'm surprised they let me take a new car with so few miles on it but they knew I was only going a couple of miles.

Because I purchased three Porsches and one Audi over the past five years from my dealer they usually try to stick me into one of their Audi loaner cars (currently have an A6 while my Cayenne S is in for service) but they have stuck me in an enterprise rental a few times...
