I would bet it is open to make the point and by the time it goes to production it will look like a regular tire. I think wonderful idea if they can make it weight the same

Michelin Plans to:
-Concentrate on low speed and low weight and work the Tweel up to performance spec. The vertical and lateral stiffness will be optimized surpassing the regular inflated tires.
-The Tweel will deliver pneumatic-like performance in weight-carrying capacity, ride comfort, and the ability to "envelope" road hazards (great for the bad guys).
-Increased the lateral stiffness by a factor of five, making the prototype unusually responsive in its handling.
-Tire pressure, fixing flats, highway blowouts and balancing between traction and comfort could all fade into distant memory.
