Default TIRE HAIR

Hi,
I just bought a set of Yokohama tires and there
is no tire hair. I assumed that all high performance
tires had tire hair. Boy was I surprised after I put
the Yokohamas on. These tires are softer so they should
wear out faster. I thought I would let the group know.

Yes, all tires should come with a full head of hair.

If you got a set of bald tires take them back as they are worthless.

Oh, and thanks for letting us know.

I think he's referring to the little rubber 'hairs' on a lot of new tires; especially 'cheap' tires. left over when released from the molding.

No. More often the not you'll find these 'hairs' on less expensive tires. Expensive tires DO have them, just less often and less 'of' them.

I don't there's any coralation between the 'hairs' and the actual cost of tire other then if you're paying $400+ for a tire the maker's of the tire probably shave them off before sale.

Got me?

And on a side note: I can't believe there's an actual thread on this topic let alone ME responding to it. LMAO!!

Me too.

And I really have no idea what he's talking about.

But it sounds like he might be talking about those tiny protuberances or nubs that all new tires have as a result of the molding process to allow the venting of hot gases and ensures that the rubber compound fills all the crevices of the tire mold. They're like mold lines in a molded part. In fact, if you look at the pic below of a tire I sold recently you can see the mold line in the center of the tread which shows where the two halves of the tire mold came together.

But I would never even think of calling these protuberances "hair." I've always called them tire nubs, and having them on a tire is a clear indication that the tire is new and not used. It also has no bearing on whether the tire is a cheap one or not, as all new tires should have them. If they don't, someone is trying to pass off used tires as new.

That pic is of one of the runflat Pirelli tires I sold after buying the 18" S-Lites takeoffs for my Mini from a local guy.

That was the pic I used to advertise the condition of the tires.

My father just picked up a brand new 06 Cooper S- in British Racing Green- just like his original Mini he used to race!

Man that car is fun!

I almost got that color. Bet it looks nice. The supercharged engine of the S probably makes a world of difference in performance. Mine is a dog by comparison.
