Neither. Once I have it perfected I'll povide directions in how to do this. It's basically putting the plate in front of the central radiator gap,--no painted areas are affected.

Your new plates match perfectly and the whale tale thing is working. Very clever and tasteful.

Nice plate! Nice color combo.
I m new here. We haven`t a Porsche. We have a X5,E320, a E220 cab, and 64 Jaguar MK2. But I think we will buy an Aston-Martin next year or a little bit later and in 5years when my mother has birthday she get a new 997 or a little bit later a new 998cab from my dad. I comes from germany. And I am only 16 and goes to school. That was my little story

You will just have to settle with a drilled nose! With all that HP why be concerned about a front license plate!

Unfortunately, my design exploits that front area just below the usual factory location. For the majority of 997 owners without Tiptronic or X51 power packages it will be a reasonable alternative. When I get some time i'll share the details within.

Picked mine up today. I guess Edgy's custom front plate mount will not work on my car.

I think the plate is great. I love it.

But, the dealer provided frame has to go. I don't advertise for the dealer ... no matter how great the deal was.

Just my opinon, m'friend.

I hear you baggerdude. If I am treated right I like to keep the frame on. I also like to keep it how it came. One of my pet peeves is when in for service and the dealer takes frame off and puts on their own.

Thanks for the compliments on the plate.

I thought the third radiator was only for the Autos??? So the X51s have it too...is it for the tranny or an extra for the motor?

Dan ...

I was not speaking of your plate. I was referring to the 'dealer provided' frame on the back of Edgy01's blue Porsche.

I hate when the dealer decides for me ... to drill the front bumper for "his stupid plate" and then adds a posterior frame advertising his dealership.

Bums me out, m'friend

The "X51DRFL" plate is very cool.
For me, anything on your license plate frame (dealer name, Porsche, etc.) is not cool. A plain chrome or black frame looks best.

My dealer all but refused to put my front plate on. Didn't want to drill the bumper. They gave me two tie wraps to temporarily attach my plate so I could pass inspection. I was impressed.

BMW dealer was insistent that I had to do it, and told me I wouldn't pass inspection without it. So I did it. No regrets now, as I dumped that car and the 911 now sits in my garage with a nice clean front bumper.

My method of mounting completely avoids drilling into any painted surface. While I had the front bumper off recently I mounted two sets of two stainless steel bolts, heads up and inside the center radiator panel. The 4 bolt heads are backed with SS fender washers for better stability. This set of bolts provides the mounting point for the license bracket, and ultimately the plate.

Due to my individual requirement for a base sticker I have provided a further special backing plate that provides a place to secure that sticker to the right of the plate (as observed).

I'll submit better images once I get the design finalized for regular users. I intend to also have the plate mounted on a hinge assembly which will allow the bottom of the plate to flip up (when the car is undergoing hard braking) to assist in breaking lock on any laser or camera-based system.
