Question Second Gear Occassional Notchiness

Second gear, during some first to second shifts seems to be quite a bit on the notchy side with this paticular car (700miles), not every time but about 40% of the time; the remaining 60% it just glides right in. I don't remember my new white 997 being this way. I thought I remember some saying second was in fact a bit notchy. The other shifts; second to third, third to fourth etc are like butter.

Does anyone know the number of syncros the 997 6 speed has for each gear?

Thanks

Glad you posted this. I am experiencing the same thing. Just picked up the car. 05 Cab with 15,000 miles. Much more pronounced when cold. Curious if this should be addressed or just the way it is.

In my experience this is temperature dependent. Slow the shift down until car is warm. Once warm I have not noticed this to continue.

Same here. Once she is warm, all is good.

You might want to try blipping the throttle a bit on the upshift while cold. Like a dbl clutch upshift.

First and second gear in the 997 have double synchros. They are going to be a bit notchy, especially when cold.

There's part of your answer.

Just brought my 05 S (16K miles) in for other work and mentioned your exact complaint to the dealer, I even said "could just be me, I'm new to Porsche ownership". They called me later in the day and said they were replacing the trans under warranty.

I have the same problem - the 1-2 shift has always been notchy, definitely worse when cold (06 S w/3500 miles). Dealer said it was "normal".

rfedele - Are they replacing your transmission due to this or some other problem?

I also notice this on my 06' C4 Cab, it gets better when warm. Sounds like it's "the nature of the beast"

Thanks for the feedback guys ; mine seems to be better when fully warmed.
So double cone in first and second; perhaps triple cone syncros would be better in helping the first to second and going back into first issues so many have experienced?

What happened to it??? That was only a few months ago that you got it, right?

Did I miss your posts explaining why you no longer have it?

Shifting into second gear should absolutely not be notchy on a $90K++ Porsche, like some old Ferrari.
I have $15k Korean cars that shift better into second than your cars and mine. There is something wrong with them. I mentioned this to my salesman and he said they should adjust the linkage??
Make your dealer fix it.
